Thousands of Seagulls and No Sea In The Area

There are good reasons for the gathering of seagulls at the County Landfill in Sacramento. The best reason is food, they are scavengers and the smelly, dirty food is a welcome sight for these guys. All these birds also pose a risk to those in the area. Efforts are made to scare away the scavengers on a regular basis.

I guess the sea is not an important part of the life of the seagull Hannah Williams .

Good morning Tom. That must be a sight for sure. These gulls are there for a good reason, food is the the right reason for them.

Well hunger is a real good motivating factor in animals as well as humans.  A free buffet awaits all.... :)

Good morning Tom. I remember when I lived in St. Petersburg seagulls would just inundate the county landfill. Was very hard to unload your vehicle without being bombarded by pellets.

We no longer have a landfill here, and we are not close to the ocean. However.... even  years after the landfill closed they are still here. Especially at grocery store parking lots. And they do hang around the river too.

We have quite the population of geese too. They are a real problem, loving to hang out in our playgrounds and ballparks.

I think they conspire with the seagulls....

Good morning again Tom. I think this is neat. There is a strip mall in New Jersey far, far away from any water or food where the seagulls congregate too.

Hi Tom - Those guys sure do get around. We have them here, and I have seen them in Devil's Lake, ND, just about as far away from an ocean as you can get on this continent.
