With the University of Arizona Wildcats in the Sweet 16 - now is a great time to showcase several neighborhoods located near the UA. Today's spotlight is - Sam Hughes Neighborhood.
Sam Hughes, the neighborhood where it is hard to find two homes that look alike - is square-mile neighborhood from north Speedway Boulevard, to south Broadway, west of Campbell and east of Country Club Road.
Development started in 1921 and named for local business leader Sam Hughes, who was instrumental in establishing Tucson's public school system. 16 architectural styles are represented, but most are constructed of Spanish eclectic style. Sam Hughes evolved over a period of 35 years and was designated as a national historical district in 1994 with about half the homes built from 1923 until 1932. Among the builders were John W. Murphey and Josias Joesler, Roy O. Place.
Home prices range from $150,000 to over $650,000 - here is a sample of homes for sale under $300,000.
