Who do you want to be today?

Who Do You Want To Be Today?

For 80’s buffs, yes, that is from an Oingo Boingo song.  Remember them?  Anyway, the question stands and is a legitimate question to ask yourself-who do you want to be today?

You see, each day we are faced with MANY choices and how you react to those choices will ultimately determine the quality of the day.  And it is the sum of the days that ultimately leads to the quality of your life.  This question is an important one, this day is an important one.  I have found that the vision of who you want to be will tremendously impact the decisions you make each day and how you react in given situations.  For example, iif your ideal is to be one of the great sales people in your industry, then the choices you make each day will be in line with that goal.

But what happens if the choices you make on a daily basis, the way you react on a daily basis does NOT line up with who you say you want to be?  What is going on there?  If that is you then you probably have a crisis of belief.  Either you don’t really believe this inner vision for your life or you don’t really believe you can attain it.  Either way, belief, or lack thereof, is the culprit. It is a tough question.  I mean, you have to think something is true in your mind first before it shows up in real life.  To become a millionaire, you must think and act as if you are a millionaire before it actually shows up in the bank account.  So how do you get that belief inside when you look around outside and see something different?  Well, I am not sure I have all the answers to that, but I have some ideas that might help….

  1. Make sure the inner vision you have for your life is really what you want.  It is one thing to say you want to be the best Realtor or LO in the city, it is another thing to commit to the sacrifices required to get there.  Maybe your lack of belief is because the truth is, you don’t want to be that person.  Deep down, you really just want to get by in life.  To be great, takes great sacrifice.  If you are not willing to sacrifice greatly, then you will find subtle ways to sabotage yourself so that you can become what you REALLY want-a person who just gets by.  Do you want to have a great life?  It will cost you.  Make sure you REALLY want to become that person of greatness.
  2. Use a mantra. Tell yourself over and over again what it is that you deeply desire.  Say it 50 times in the mirror in the morning and 50 times at night.  “I am the number one closer of this or that in the city” or whatever it is that you believe.  Your subconscious mind can not distinguish between truth or reality-it accepts what you tell it.  Start telling it your inner vision IS reality and soon, it will begin to believe it.
  3. Look outside of you.  Focus on the needs of others and what you can do to fill those needs.  Like looking in the mirror at yourself too long, you look at yourself and you will start noticing tons of flaws.  Same is true of belief.  Stop focusing so hard on the reality of the situation around you and start focusing on the needs of others.  All businesses rise or fall based on whether they meet a need in the marketplace.  Focus on others and the needs will overwhelm you-the opportunities to help will be so great you will get fired up to get to work each day!

There may be other keys to this problem and other ways to get there but I would start with the above.  Make sure you really want your vision-get crystal clear on it.  Then, repeat it over and over and over again until you start believing it.  Then, focus on how you can meet needs of others instead of worrying about your own needs.  You will become successful in direct proportion to the number of people whose needs you meet!
