It's National Spinach Day!
Popeye knew what he was talking about when he popped those spinach cans open and swallowed all that green stuff. I, however, do not care for canned or frozen spinach; fresh is best.
Spinach - What Is It Good For?
One cup of raw spinach contains 27 calories, 0.86 grams of protein, 30 milligrams of calcium, 0.81 grams of iron, 24 milligrams of magnesium, 167 milligrams of potassium, 2813 IUs of Vitamin A and 58 micrograms of folate.
Spinach is one of the BEST sources of magnesium and potassium: which we all need for energy and metabolism. It's great for glucose control, lowering the risk of cancer, lowering blood pressure, improving bone health, and lowering the risk of asthma.
There are tons of recipes for spinach. One of the things I like to do is a grilled steak with wilted spinach. Ummm. I'm probably weird but I also love it au naturale (cleaned, of course) as just a baby spinach salad with lots of avocado and tomatoes. Oh, and strawberries.
Doesn't that look great? You can find it here. Courtesy of Give Me Some Oven.
