"Forget the Lawn, I Want a View"

View from Palos Verdes home

Buyers change their minds.  It's their prerogative and it's also human nature.  The buyer who begins a home search with a big lawn as one of her must have items, may decide to shrink the size of the lawn and increase the size of the view once she has gazed at the view from a few Palos Verdes view homes.

People move to Palos Verdes for a variety of reasons.  The stellar school system is a huge draw for families with children.  My four children graduated from Peninsula High and my oldest grandson will graduate in June as one of the class of 2015's valedictorians.  There's no question the schools are a top reason buyers desire to live in Palos Verdes.

The views may be the reason so many residents refuse to leave their home on "The Hill" once their children are off to college and careers of their own.  The twinkling lights of the Los Angeles Basin at night is a sight to behold.  The sound and smell of the ocean complement the wide water views of so many Palos Verdes homes.  There are mountain, island and harbor view homes.  There are ocean front homes, there are hilltop homes, and some homes have a view of the whole spectrum of views.  I recall a Rolling Hills home with a view of the ocean and Catalina Island from the front and a view of city lights and mountains from the back.

If you are considering purchasing or selling a Palos Verdes view home, we'd love to assist you with finding your new home, or the buyer for your current home.  Adding a view to your list of required amenities is one you won't regret and one you can't add later.

Let's go look at some Palos Verdes homes with a view!

That's an amazing view and you can understand why some people covet homes with views like that, will pay the price, and don't want to leave. Views are sometimes the most important thing for some buyers and as you point out they will give up other things they'd like to have in order to get the view. The ones of the ocean seem to be most desirable, and certainly run up the prices

I'd love that view too Norma Toering Broker for Palos Verdes and Beach Cities Would I have to lower my dog down by a rope to let him out in the morning?

This is a million dollar view for sure.  I would take this over a big lawn all day long.

Hi Norma -- it may take some time for buyers to understand that compromise is a part of any real estate transaction.  Homes with views often means a sacrifice of other features.   Your photo shows that reality in this case is quite incredible.

Norma,  And we don't need to water the view of the ocean. The drought situation in California is causing many homeowners to let their lawns die. I'll take the view ...

I'm breathless looking at that beautiful photo!  We do have Lake Michigan here and some great views, but we're flat.  There are no views from up high (unless you're in the Hancock Tower downtown!)

With a view like that I certainly would sacrifice a lawn.  I often have people say they would like either.

Grant Schneider I know, I've seen the views of Palos Verdes thousands of times, but I still can't resist the urge to snap a pic of the best of the best.

Li Read The bigger the view the higher price tag and many buyers are priced out of the best view homes in Palos Verdes.

Yes, there is a whole new business springing up in SoCal focused on removing grass and returning to native plants that thrive in our desert climate--long overdue.  Although most of CA water goes for agricultural purposes I'm a fan of embracing the local climate and landscaping accordingly. Kathleen Daniels

Margaret Goss Oh yes, I'm familiar with "flat" Chicago.  My home in Naperville had a huge lawn, but no view.

I love a nice yard, but not as much as I love a great view.  Beautiful shot Norma!
