I saw an AR contest blog by Grant Schneider on what we have given up in 2015 that was not working.
I thought about this a little...and looked back in the mirror on the road my career has traveled and realized that I, indeed, had given up on a few things this year!!
In fact two major changes in my career are being made
1. I gave up worrying about the other guy. The other Agent...the other Broker...the other Auctioneer...the other Seller...and the other Buyer... and started helping others be successful;
and
2. I gave up working with/for Clients that will not share all of the information I need to perform at my highest ability!!
Now, I am not sure this is what Grant was thinking when he wrote his blog that can be seen here: http://activerain.com/blogsview/4594099/march-contest--what-have-you-stopped-doing-in-2015-
I had a great 2014 and a very good start to 2015. But all has not been perfect…and I suspect that is more normal than not.
So, this year I have decided to not worry about what the other guy is doing because they are going to keep doing what they do whether I like it or not.
I have decided to concentrate on how I can help others succeed in whatever their endeavors are. Years ago I used to do this and somehow had gotten away from it.
When you help others to be successful, they will remember that and on down the road…many will repay your efforts in sharing friendship, leads, and business opportunities. Virtually every person has good traits and it is up to us to help nurture and guide those who have strayed...back to the good path.
Now…this isn’t a rah-rah intervention in everyday life…the “have a nice day” comment… or smile…or hold the door…we should all be doing that every day.
No, this is the genuine go out of your way to help someone who is down get back up…or who is just starting out get started correctly. The new agent or old agent who is struggling…even my competitors.
After all…who is the biggest obstacle to our success? Just look in the mirror and you will see them!
I also have recently given up working with a great person who would simply never get me the information I needed to help him reach his goals. I know he had access to it as the information is available to every landowner signed up for a government farm program. But it is not available to a Broker without written permission of the Owner…which I could not seem to get.
As I get older, I am realizing that I have less and less time left to reach new goals for myself. And yet I have many goals that are quite lofty and not yet attained. In order to reach these goals, I have resolved myself to let go of business that appears on the surface to be great for my career but in reality has underlying problems.
In other words, I am simply way more selective than I used to be…not because I am successful…but because I no longer have the extra time to help those who do not want to help themselves.
Some of you may call this cherry picking and while I do not disagree entirely…I would say it is wise beyond my years and something I should have done years ago…unless of course, I end up with no business later in the year. I will get back to you on how this works out for me in 2015.
Until next time…
