Want To Spice Up A Class? Just Project A Naked Woman On The Screen!

I certainly got my students' attention in class one rainy morning.  I was teaching about lead generation through using various free internet sites, including the famous Craigslist.  Since I didn't have screen shots of the various sites to use in my powerpoint, and because I wanted to give demonstrations of how to use each site, I was switching back and forth from powerpoint to internet explorer.

I showed the class Postlets first, because that is where I start my internet marketing.  Then, after demonstrating how easy it was to enter a listing there, I proceeded to Craigslist to continue the example.

There was laughter.  Laughter is not good as an instructor, unless you crack a joke or do something intentionally funny.  Someone then commented that my listings would probably be ignored on that website.

I looked.  There was a naked woman.

My finely honed instincts took over in a flash, and before you could say "nekkid" I had the screen blocked.  Of course, it was too late.

It was then that I learned that there is an "adult variety site" that is accessed if you type in Craigslist slightly incorrectly.  Lesson learned:  Save the websites you are going to use under favorites!

We may be the home of rednecks, but for the rest of that day I was red-faced!

Ok, I see you now... stop trying to figure out how to type it!

Since this happened, I believe the website has been changed, but who knows what will happen with slips on other websites?

Bill:

That is too funny. I frequently teach seminars and luckily they don't involve typing in websites. The only thing to do is crack a joke and soldier on. You'd be amazed by how much respect you get as an instructor when things go wrong and you remain unruffled. I've tripped over extension cords that disconnected the projector, which took another five minutes to work again. Ironically, I got some of the highest reviews I've ever received from that seminar.

However,  I will have to keep in mind your attention getting technique when people's mind appear to be wandering (as they often do during discussions of the tax code. LOL).

Man oh man, Bill what a hoot.  Bet it didn't take you more than a couple of seconds to figure it out, just a few hours to get back to normal.    That is another way of lead generation.  Just now what we are interested in at KW.  Let's see ...  how is the rating for use of visual aids?

"OMG....that sounds terrible!" (now, how do I sign up for your classes in the future?)

Seriously, I've always wondered when that was going to happen with all the laptop usage on the internet being projected on the screen in our training classes. It seems like it was only a matter of time before such an honest mistake was going to happen.

You certainly got their attention.  Perhaps I could purposely do something similar?

Melody, it DID get me thinking... I definitely woke them up and had their attention.  We'll have to brainstorm
