I can remember being in the business for only two years, at the height of the market. I had a house that I was doing an open house at. It was a tough one. An A frame on a secluded lot with no basement, but a full sized "twin home" right next to the house that the sellers used as an office. So, not only one, but, two A frames.
I remember showing this "particular" couple the house. We buzzed through the master bedroom to get to the huge full sized deck off the master by the sliding glass doors. As we were enjoying the brisk, snowy winter day on the deck, the buyer thought he would be helpful and slid the glass door shut to keep the cold air out of the house. That's not all he was going to keep out of the house.......all of the sudden, the board fell into the track and we were officially locked out of an open house, in the snow, on a second story deck!
The buyer felt he would be chivalrous. He scaled the railing and jumped off the deck and landed in the snow like a frog! He brushed himself off, went into the main level of the house and came up and removed the board from the sliding glass doors. Well, all's well that ends well. I sometimes feel like the Lucille Ball of real estate!
