Fun Events to “Spring Into History” in Camas
Historic Farrell Building - Downtown Camas Association
First Fridays in Camas are monthly events with a different theme. Just voted Best Outdoor Family Fun in Clark County, this Friday's downtown event will certainly live up to that recognition. The theme, celebrating the town’s legacy and arrival of Spring, will feature a “History Hunt” to explore the historic Downtown area. Participating businesses will issue tickets to visitors, which will be entered to win prizes. The event starts at 5 pm and the history hunt list can be picked up at the Downtown Camas Association table or in the Chamber of Commerce office at 422 NE 4th Ave. Participating businesses will also have lists.
Participants are encouraged to wear vintage clothes or a hat - or something made out of paper. They will qualify for a free drawing ticket. Recognizing its roots in the paper mill started in the 1880s, there will be the classic Toilet Paper Toss to see who can throw the most in a row into the hole.
Other activities for all ages include guessing the number of “Spring Eggs” in the jar, celebration of Camas’ prune orchard history (yep, that’s how Prune Hill got named), and locations of the namesake Camas lily fields. Historic photos and props for selfies will be displayed in businesses throughout downtown.
One of my favorite places, Camas Antiques, is offering 20% discounts off Arcadia History Books and Tyler candles. Other merchants including Lizzabeth A, The Wild Hair, and Vega Virtuosity are also offering special activities and discounts.
Live music will be provided by Merrill at Flutes and Rocks (500 NE 4th), The Ben Macy Trio at Birch Street Uptown Lounge (311 NE Birch), and the Stellar Jays at Camas Gallery (408 NE 4th).
