Blogging - What to Write About ?

By
Industry Observer with Retired

I am uninspired at times to write about what I know the most about. Real Estate. I have spared you most of the anecdotal stories because I don't really don't like talking about my client experiences even though they have always been wonderful. It just feels like I would be betraying that agent /client relationship just to make some internet noise.

And I don't like telling people too much about how I run my business because I sure don't want to come off like a know it all. But it works well for me. I do like sharing photography and some of the neat things you can with it but I think that even this gets a bit too predicable.

I could write about all the things I have learned in real estate after over two decades of service to my clients, service to my profession in local, state national leadership but most of it would be of no value to anybody. Sort of like politics after the election, LOL.

I try to write  narrative local market reports but find them short on benefits unless I knew for sure consumers in the market were reading them and it helped them in some way make a better decision. But I have no particular proof of that. And further, too many and it is just plain uninteresting. It comes down to just doing a little of this and a little that often enough and trying to make my way to help out where I can, give guidance when and where I can, share experiences in photography that I hope aren't boring and promote the city that I love. San Diego, Where Happy Happens ! At least that is true for me.

The hardest thing for me to remember is to always practice what I preach. Each day we all likely have a different audience reading our posts and what I said in my many yesterday posts  very possibly could bear repeating again today. Thus, our ActiveRain Senior staff is now encouraging us to re-write some of our older posts because they know the value of what we shared before and new consumers need the same education (updated) of course. I haven't started that as yet but it seems like a perfect time to begin.

For what its worth William I would encourage you to write about business. leave out the customer names and there is NOTHING wrong with that. I think writing about styles and real estate is WHY you are here! DO IT!! That doesnt make you a know it all it showcases what you DO know an that IS exactly what you want to get out to others to provide your knowledge and expertise to them.

Never fear what others say If you like me great if you dont I dont care my life is too busy to concern with people I dont know and trying to make everyone love me as that is an impossibility.

Do what you know and watch my friend. I follow you because I am a fan so make me proud

David Shamansky , My clients know I blog here and they like the photo blogs, LMAO. I expect they check to make sure I am not telling tales about them as well. After my last post on the Humming Bird photo about Spring, one of my past clients sent me a fabulous photo she took of 2 little hummers in a nest in her yard. On Saturday, I am going there to see it and maybe even take my own photo, thought hers is positively stunning.

Hi Hannah Williams , You are so sweet. Many thanks for the terrific comment. I wrote a nice photo blog this evening and I hit publish and all that was there was the title. Guess I will re-write it when I get inspired again, LOL.

I do like the idea of rewriting a few classics from the past, though some times it is a lot simpler just sharing a photo or reflection from the day.

Hi William -- I agree with David Shamansky and would encourage you to share more of your sage real estate wisdom.  As far as clients - there are ways to disguise experiences yet still retain the spirit of the message.

I find when I fall into an AR brain freeze or thought drought there are many ideas "out there" waiting to be cultivated.   Some good, some silly, some entirely off-the-wall.   Blog on...

William-While nobody likes a know it all who brags about how wonderful they are. YOU are not that person. What you have is many years of experience in the RE business as well as your expertise in Photography and other areas as well.  You are also one of the most sincere, humble, compassionate and caring people I have ever known.  We are all lucky to learn from your passions and your wisdom in your areas of expertise.  When you are great like you are then you don't have to brag it is your knowledge and YOU the person that speaks volumes.

I've been having a bout with writer's block lately.  Just this morning I was thinking my very best stories are in my head, but they are certainly not anything I'm WILLING to write about!

I think we all have to find what works for us.  My market reports are very well read.  Not a lot of comments, but on average 2000 clicks monthly.  That equals local clicks to me.

William - I believe I still remember the time when you were not a photo expert. And you wrote excellent blog posts. You also were very encouraging to, probably, many people, and I remember and cherish your support especially  in my early days on AR.

I for one would certainly like to hear your thoughts on the business of real estate in general and in particular why you've succeeded in such a competitive market like San Diego. I don't think it's bragging, quite the opposite, it's educational and inspirational for your peers on AR and any new agent in the San Diego area smart enough to follow your blog. Of course I'm a big fan of your photography as well.
