Each time we are traveling East of Amarillo Texas we make a point to stop by ‘The Cross’ in Groom Texas. The eye-catching freestanding cross is 19 stories tall and can easily be seen for 20 miles. Many claim that the Groom Texas Cross is the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.
There are life-size statues representing the trial and events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. There is a life-size Last Supper and a newly developed tomb which you can enter. We have had the privilege of being at The Cross at sunset. What an unforgettable feeling and scene watching the sun set behind the enormous cross.
There is no entrance or parking fee to The Groom Cross and everyone is welcome. Feel free to touch and feel the life size statues or simply sit and absorb what each represents. They do request that no pets are allowed out of vehicles in order to keep the grounds in pristine condition. Donations are accepted if you wish.
