The 450th - Again!
Hmm..- the 450th anniversary of St. Augustine's founding is, of course, this year and officially in early Sept.. I thought the whole year would be organized by now and that we would be in full fledged celebration mode. My mistake, although by the number of tourists in town, they seem to think something is going on! It would appear that a lot of work, meetings,etc. are going on behind the scenes, so we know some decisions are being made,and somethings in the planning stage, but, still, there is a general feeling of a lot of half-made plans and unresolved issues. I mean, is the Pope coming? I guess not. Is someone from the Spanish royal family coming? Who knows? The Chalk Walk is coming up and Romanza Week seems pretty much set to roll. The EMMA concert association is sponsoring an event. What will the local government come up with? All eyes are on them!
Speaking of our parking problem, which I wasn't, that remains one of St. Augustine's biggest unresolved issues. Roundabouts, another garage, satellite parking, more public transport. These ideas and more get thrown around but any solution seems still to be out of reach and meanwhile the problem persists and worsens. Somebody please get on this!!
Some quick real estate stats - mortgage rates fell again to 3.69%. Housing starts and resales took a small tumble last month, but as they weather improves the market is set to "spring" back to life again!
