Saying Goodbye to Televangelist Reverend Robert Schuller
Robert Schuller was a well respected man and I grew up watching him on TV on Sunday mornings when I missed church. He was a very powerful speaker and had a great following. His show was called "Power Hour" and is still broadcast by his grandson currently.
He built a huge church, The Crystal Cathedral, in Garden Grove, CA with donations. He held church services there every Sunday and on Christmas and Easter. His broadcasted services reached 184 countries and he had millions of followers.
They also had the reenactment of the birth of Jesus called "The Glory of Christmas" and then the "Glory of Easter". I remember first coming to see "The Glory of Easter" with my Dad. I was amazed at how big and beautiful the Crystal Cathedral was in person and they had fantastic costumes and real animals on the stage and flying angels plus Donkeys, Camels, Goats, Peacocks, Chickens and Horses.
A few years later my daughter's school had a field trip there and I went as a guide. It was just fantastic! It became very popular and many school kids came here for the pageant at Christmas time.
Then in 2008, when the market fell, so did the attendance at the Crystal Cathedral and finally it had to be sold. It was purchased by the Catholic Dioceses of Orange County in 2013.
Robert Schuller, 88 years old, had been fighting cancer recently and died on April 2st, 2015. A memorial for the Reverend will be held at the Crystal Cathedral and hopefully a free service for all to come and remember what a good man he was. His wife, Arvella died last year and he is survived by 3 children. Rest in Peace!
