National Hostess Twinkie Day - April 6th

TwinkieI'm not kidding, today is National Hostess Twinkie Day!  A few years ago we lost the Twinkie due to bankruptcy proceedings, but they came back about 6 months later.

The original Twinkie used a banana cream filling, but due to banana rationing during WWII the company switched to vanilla cream.  Twinkies have been scorned by healthy food afficionados, and there are a myriad of jokes about them, too.  Contrary to the urban legend that a Twinkie can last forever, their shelf life is ideally 10 days at the most, although a maximum shelf life of 45 days has also been noted.

The Texas State Fair introduced deep fried Twinkies, which met with popular acclaim. They are now sold in some ballparks. I've never tried that, and it's been a long time since I've had a Twinkie in any form, but I think if you eat sensibly most of the time you can indulge in a guilty little pleasure now and then.  I may just celebrate National Twinkie Day today! The Detroit Tigers have their home opener today and have a lot of new items on their menu, but sadly, deep fried Twinkies did not make the cut.

We got a double order of Georgetown Cupcakes delivered by mistake yesterday - There should have been 12 for Easter - but we got 24 instead - no fried twinkies for me today! but the idea sounds delicious!

Lise Howe, with all of those cupcakes you'd better celebrate Twinkie day next month!

Thanks, Raymond E. Camp.

I will have to find one and give it a try. I'm starting to feel like I lead a sheltered life!

Good morning Bob. This is sad, that there is a day named after a snack. Just my view.

Sheila Anderson, oh there are sadder days than this one.

These 'unoffocial' holidays just pop up and most every day of the year has 5 or 6 listings. And different calendars have some similar and some different ones, too.  I think the baker declared this one, though!  Keep smiling.

Now how in the world did I miss this momentous day, Robert Smith?  Getting Twinkies in my lunchbox when a kid was like finding gold ...

Thanks for the bulletin!  Who knew!  Hostess Twinkies and those chocolate cupcakes  with the squiggle were a gowing up staple for many.

I remember as a kid, Hostess Twinkies were a regular in my lunch box.  Then I remember at some point in my mid- 20s, the flavor changed slightly, and they had a more artificial, chemical taste.  I haven't had one in years, but when they announced they were going out of business a few years ago, I kind of had a sad feeling.  I know they're back, but I haven't had one recently!

I did know such a day existed.  Its hard to keep track of what day is what. Wow, amazed at what you can do with just a "Twinkie"

Linda Metallo DiBenardo  - yes they were a great treat in their day.

Myrl Jeffcoat - they're not on my 'go to' list of treats, but nothing was better when i was a child.

Praful Thakkar  - I hate to think of future generations being deprived of a Twinkie.

Sham, I stumbled upon that 'day'. There are a lot of crazy days out there!
