The Largest "Snake" in Tucson

The largest snake in Tucson

You all perhaps know of the ample presence of snakes in Tucson and the Arizona desert.  But have you seen the largest snake of all?

Nearby Tucson residents can enjoy the experience of walking and bicycling though the innards of a 280 feet long diamondback rattlesnake...bridge. The snake is a pedestrian bridge over Broadway Boulevard.

In 1997, the concept for the design came from Tucson artist Simon Donovan.  It was completed in 2002.

The snake's eyes originally lit up at night, and the tail contains a motion sensor that triggers an amplified rattling sound -- perfect to startle speeding bicyclists. (and walkers)

Directions:
From Broadway Blvd turn south onto S. Euclid Ave., then immediately turn right onto E. McKey St. Park in the lot and walk over the bridge.

That is really cool!  But if there are ample snakes in general, I think I would prefer the gym

That's just a fun, lighthearted attraction to have in the city.  Nice!

Good morning Cara,

Ok I bit on the caption. Looks like an interesting walk or ride. Love hiking in the Superstitious Mountains when visiting and have seen a few of your rattlers.

Make yourself a great day.

Cara- ok, for someone who does not like snakes, this one is a bit eerie but cool at the same time.

Very original idea for a bridge. The rattling sound would definitely get your attention!

Now I don't care who you are I've never seen a snake that large.  I know for sure I won't walk the path.  Let's just say I have a healthy respect for a snake of any size.

HI CARA!  Have ridden through this several times - I am not sure if I like this or not - but it sure is an eye catcher - just gotta be careful coming out of downtown if you are driving - you can easily get distracted by it!
