Hi my name is Brandon Andersohn, and I am 11 years old. I want to tell you about a night out with my dad. It was one of the best nights of my life. I went to go see the living legend JOE SATRIANI, he is my idol.

Last night, Joe Satriani had a guitar clinic in San Francisco. Now many of you might not know who he is but he is one of the best guitar players in the world!! The drive to San Francisco was about two hours but it was worth it because two reasons, one, I love spending time with my dad, and I got to in the car. Second, it was the best clinic/concert I’ve ever been to in my life.

When we got to San Francisco it took so long to find parking. After the relief that we found parking just guess how long the line was. Yeah try more than 400 people and it took forever for the line to move. It took so long for the line to move that I thought I wasn’t even going to get in or get to see Joe. When we were about five yards away from getting in the door, my dad said to me, if the manager said that only one more person can go in, he would make me go instead of him, and when he said that, it made feel so good inside because that means he really wanted me to have the time of my life instead of him.

Once we got into Guitar Center it was HUGE. So me and my dad tried to get as close as we could to the stage, which wasn’t very close at all. So my dad said when Joe goes on the stage that he will put me on his shoulders. Once that happens, we will take pictures. I saw an opening on the side and I told my dad to go there so we did. There were a lot of tall people there and there was a tall amp and I told my dad I was going to stand on it so I could see.

I got to listen to about one song, then the store manager said I had to get off the amp. I told my dad that we needed to move. When I was up on the amp, I saw where the bathrooms were, and they were right by the mini stage that Joe was playing on. So I faked like I had to go to the bathroom so me and my dad could be right by Joe and take some pictures together. After I was done going to the bathroom, we listened to Joe some more. He is so good!! But so is my dad!!!

When he was done playing, he let the audience ask him questions. My dad was the first one to ask a question. After that, another guy asked a question. He said he had a signed guitar from Joe and then he asked if Joe would play it. Joe said yes. As Joe was playing the guitar, the man had tears running down his face. The store manager said that we can get an autographed picture from Joe. He said the first row of people in the audience go first, so me and my dad snuck in to the front row and got in line.

My dad bought a brand new CD that Joe just recorded and we got it signed by him. I also got to meet Joe and get a signed picture from him too. I got to shake his hand which I haven’t washed yet lol. On the way home, we listened to Joe’s brand new CD and rocked out in the car. It was one of the best nights of my life!!! I now have the autographed picture in my room framed.

My dad told me it was okay to blog this so I can share one of the most special times of my life with you. My dad’s the best dad in the whole world, and we’re best friends forever!!!

Brandon Andersohn

My dad is going to help me put up a video of Joe shredding the guitar. I hope you Enjoy it!!

I have to say that this was an evening with my son I'll never forget!  The look in his eyes and the pounding of his heart to see his favorite guitar player in the world was priceless!  Truly an unforgettable evening.

While I was away tonight at the TBWS Interview with ActiveRain, starring guests Bob Stewart and Rich Jacobson, my son Brandon was at home writing this post for my Blog!  I couldn't be any prouder of him, and I know that this was one of those defining moments in his life and mine.

So heartwarming... what a precious & priceless tribute to you from your son! For a parent, there can't be anything dearer in this world than the hearts of our children, and Brandon's story speaks volumes of your work in cultivating, for him, all that is good and upright in our world. (Also an excellent write-up--- the local papers ought to snag it). You all did a great job with the Mixpo too. Thoroughly enjoyable and I was entirely drawn in to the whole story in all these amazing dimensions, brought to life by you and Brandon. Bravo!

Brandon, so glad you had this special night with your dad and your favorite guitar player. You'll never forget it, I remember when my dad took me to see the Beach Boys, I was in 5th grade and they were just starting out. I even got to kiss the drummer, because my dad took me and my girlfriends to the Holiday Inn and they were in the bar and he went and asked them to come out. We didn't have videos or digital camera's then but I will never forget it !!

We sat on a high school gym floor, if you can imagine and my home town was only 12,000 people. Are you going to play and sing like mom and dad ?

Brandon and Brad,

Great post, sounds like an amazing night!  Other folks here are right, you'll never forget it as long as you live.

Some of my fondest memories of times with my now grown kids are road trips for special things.  6-hours to Cleveland so Kirstin and I could see Radiohead.  I was, in fact the oldest person there, but what a great time!

You post brought back many of my fondest memories. Thanks.

Brandon,

Your dad rocks!  Literally!  :)

I'm so glad you got to see Joe, but I'm happier that you got to spend such a special time with your dad.  If you think this whole night was something super special --- it will only magnify as the years go by.  I know at 11 that doesn't make much sense, but when you're 21 it will.  Or 31, or ....

Can't wait to see a video of YOU playing a guitar like that!  Take the world by storm, Brandon.  It's there for the taking.

He will be very excited to see all these comments and words of encouragement, you guys are the BEST!!  :-)

Thanks for making Brandon feel the same love that I have experienced here in the AR community.

Hi Brandon - what a great night you had with your Brad, and I can clearly see just why he is the best dad in the whole wide world to you!  I've got a dad just like that, and to me, he's the best dad in the whole wide world, too.  We're both lucky that way, aren't we?

I haven't heard Joe before, so I'll just have to check him out, based on how cool you think he is.  Thanks for sharing with us, and we think your dad's pretty cool, too!

Brandon, his brother, Mom and I are visiting his Big Brother down at Cal Poly. We are sharing this post with brother then headed for the beach.  The sky is clear in San Luis Obispo, and the temp is about 78 degrees.  I promised Brandon he could reply to more comments today, but he chose the beach instead! Go figure... LOL!~  I know he'll want to get back to all of you soon, but right now, he wants Dad to close the laptop, and head out the door.  Time to go get sandy and wet!!  :-)))

Hey Brad & Brandon, I'm also a BIG Satch fan, the clinic must have been amazing. I missed him on the G3 tour the last time he was in Montreal but will definitely try to catch him live next time round. P.S. Your dad is awesome for taking you to see Satriani, what an experience!

Hi Brandon, Awesome blog and video!  What happened to the after the concert interview with that good looking young man??   You are blessed to have such a great dad.

p.s. I heard that Eric Clapton said Phil Keaggy is the best!  :)

Great job here, Brandon. It is impressive that a young man your age is so grounded and into really good music. You will understand someday (if you do not already) why your dad's priorities of family are so important. You will be awesome in life because you are right NOW! BTW, your dad is the best!

PS Doreen, I used to watch Phil Keaggy in a bar in Kent, Ohio when I was in college. He was in Glass Harp then. Oh yea, and a guy named Joe Walsh played there every Thursday night in the James Gang...I had a rough upbringing...

Hey Brandon, here is my main man on Fender....         Neil

Brandon -- So glad you shared your experience with the Active Rainers!  I used to live in San Francisco (28 years) and it is a beautiful city -- PARKING is for the birds.  I used to know a few secret parking places, but I bet they are gone now!  Glad you got to see Joe.  You are a good blogger.  Next time, we will look forward to hearing some of your guitar solos.
