Real Estate Business with Millennials: 4 Easy Things

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with RealSupport Inc.

There are many articles about the importance of doing business with Millennials. And for good reason: these tech-savvy young adults, aged 18 to 34 years old, will number 75.3 million people during 2015.

Generation Y will soon outnumber the Baby Boomer generation, according to data from the Pew Research Center.

Capturing the attention of the Millennial audience requires more than a token effort at social media. It requires offering communication methods and business interaction that is comfortable for them. It also requires loosening up the suit and tie and showing your authentic self.

This doesn't mean you need to chuck your own style out the window. Just add 4 easy things:

1. Text me. Most real estate websites have a "Contact Me" button, that opens a cumbersome email lead capture form, and maybe shows a phone number. Your Millennial clients want to text you. Why not offer that option in your contact data?

2. Offer to meet on Skype or Google Hangouts. It's an easy icebreaker, and a great way to introduce yourself to your Millennial client. It's also a low-pressure, convenient way to get valuable "face time" and be memorable.

3. Offer a face-to-face meeting at places like Starbucks, Chipotle or the local hipster hangout. Your Millennial clients may feel more at ease in a neutral, social setting than a real estate office. Of course, this depends on the individual. Offer your clients a choice of turf.

4. Have a social media presence that shows your authentic self. A recent article in Inman News said that your social media must show more than real estate stats and homes for sale. Allow your authentic self to shine, by including posts about:

  • Who you really are
  • Fascinating things in your life
  • Popular events in your city
  • Your favorite restaurants and places
  • Your chariable causes and community involvement

While Millennials don't like to be "sold" to, they welcome the guidance of a real estate professional who is friendly, authentic, and easy to work with. By adding some Millennial-minded content and communication to your business image, you can reach out to Generation Y without having to reinvent yourself.

Thanks Bonita, these are some very good tips. I need to re-activate my Skype account so that I can use it for business.  I also try to keep a good balance of business vs. "getting to know me" on both my personal and professional Facebook pages.
