Tips For Staging Your Home Like A Pro - If you’ve ever viewed a home before, you know that staging a space can make all the difference when it comes to making your final decision. Many sellers hire a professional to do the staging for them; however, it can be done with the help of the internet and the opinion of a real-estate professional. Here are five staging tips for your home.

Keep it Neutral

You might have loved that vibrant color in your bedroom, but the chances of a new buyer having the same taste is very slim. Keep bedrooms and bathrooms neutral in color, as a color that is too bright might be seen as a re-painting task they’ll have to complete upon moving in.

Curb Appeal

If your front porch/steps don’t have a lot going on, consider adding some potted plants and painting your front door. This will immediately brighten up your home and make it stand out among the others on the block.

De-clutter

You might like trinkets and picture frame full of family members, but a buyer will have trouble seeing themselves in your space with all of the clutter. Before showing your home, do an overhaul of the clutter on the shelves and in the main living spaces to avoid it being too personal.

Organize Closets

Buyers pay attention to closet space, so make sure that yours is as organized as possible. Closets packed full of stuff gives the illusion that they’re small and won’t be able to fit a lot; but closets that are well-organized will only thrill a potential buyer.

Brighten Up the Space

Buyers love light. Open up the curtains or add a couple of lamps to a darker room to give a brighter vibe.

Great post - short and sweet.  This is such valuable information for sellers.  Sometimes they don't realize the things they need to do to get their house ready for a sale.  Everytime we have a house staged, it sells faster than those that are not.  Great job!

Staging a home is impoprtant just don't go over board.  I have had people walk out because the home was sterile or feelt like a museum.

Absolutely great points in staging a home especially if its ot occupied.  Even though occupied homes can use some help too but keeping it straight is a tough task specially if there are kids and pets in the house

In an age of no color, it is nice to have a drink of something with pizzazz and have had homes sell because of it. They stand out in the sea of sameness. Playing it safe like the rest of the herd can have it's drawbacks. Ease into a little flavor, character, don't be afraid of style showing.

Great post and excellent tips for staging a home for sale.  I must add though that terms like "declutter" and "neutral in color" aren't specific enough for most homeowners. Most people don't know where to begin when it comes to clutter, or even which of their things actually are clutter.  What stays and what goes?

When told to use "neutral" colors most people think white or beige and end up with a cold, unappealing room after painting.

Letting in as much light as possible is very important and opening up the curtains is great advice.  If those curtains are 20 years old, however, they should be removed.

Excellent advice....just don't expect the results to be "like a pro" because a lot is lost in translation when it comes to sellers following tips like these.  That goes for tips shared by stagers too.  I once had a client who was so proud of her bathroom "transformation" using my advice that she asked me to come over and see.  The shower curtain she purchased was nothing like what I had suggested.  The "fluffy new towels" I suggested ended up being two very thin face clothes draped over the towel bar.

Bottom line:  If you want professional results, hire a professional.

I have a client that had me list a vacant home to sell.  They were concerned that it might be targetted for vandalism if it was vacant so they would always pull all the blinds and curtains making the house very dark and dismal.  The day I put in some staging furniture, etc., we got the offer.
