I cannot tell you how many times smells have killed a deal.  Just last week we went into a home that the house absolutely stunk of dog.  It was nasty.  My clients did not even finish the first floor before walking out.    But the most memorable case of stink was when I was with a couple with two young children.  We walked into a house and the young boy blurted out very loudly "Mom why does this house smell so bad".  Needless to say we didn't stay long.

A House That Smells Is Hard To Sell ....Some Ways to Handle Everyday Smells.Curry, onions, garlic....fish oh my.  Smells can cost a seller money at the bargaining table. Smoking in a home can reduce the resale value of your home by 29 percent, ouch.  And the worst part of having to tell your clients that their house won't sell for the same as the other homes in their neighborhood, is that the seller is unaware of the odors because they live in the house and their noses do not detect the smells as easily. So what can I tell the seller? Scent can be the strongest of our senses....it will form an instant impression either good or bad.How to remove the smells from my house?Odor is caused by bacteria that attaches to everything...drapes, walls, and furniture. Mold, pets, laundry, food and air vents are common offenders.  So identifying the source is the first step and making a plan to eliminate while your home is on the market. Do not try to mask the smell with another smell...a common red flag to any buyer!  A professional deep cleaning or a nontoxic fogger like DynoFresh will neutralize the odors.  Then introduce a subtle, simple scents that causes those olfactory nerves to send out happy vibes lemon peels in garbage disposals fabric softener sheets used around clothes  plug in near bathrooms door, cat box Live Meticulously...this is the hardest part, but essential to selling your home! Take out the trash after the big meal Clean the refrigerator often  Change air filters regularly Do laundry more often to avoid pileups Use the fan over the stove...or better yet grill outside! Avoid cooking strong smelling food, like fish, broccoli and garlic Bathe pets and their belongings often.  Photo by Bart  Click Here to View New Boise Listings   Sara Brosier | (208)-697-4111 | Email Me website www.sellmyboisehome.com | Search For Homes If you are Buying, Selling or Relocating to the Boise Area and need help from a professional REALTOR® I would be happy to assist you! Hello Russ,

Yes, a home can have fabulous curb appeal but a bad odor greeting one when they open the door can undo that first impression fast!

Great choice for a re-blog, nothing is more offensive than offending smells, and even the smell of a fragrant candle trying to cover it up!

This is a good choice for a re-blog.

It is a shame that the format is lost with re-blogs. I hope the staff will fix this problem.

Great choice for a reblog Russ... Most folks don't even notice the odors in their homes because they are so use to them.... Agents need to make them aware of them...
