Spring Colors

Spring Flowers

I posted this earlier and all the content and photo disappeared leaving only the title. These simple flowers certainly don't lack for color or design. I was out at the nursery last evening and observed flowers that are richer and more colorful this year than my recollection of previous years. While we are in a drought here in California, someone has to watering these to get them all so prolific.

We are ordered now to cut watering to just 2 days a week and when the heat comes in a couple months, I expect most everything will die away. All over California, lawns are being ripped out and either replaced with artificial turf or plants that require very little water. Median watering on our highways has all but completely stopped. We are going to see a very brown Summer and Fall.

I expect to see more lawns replaced with p-gravel or other type of no maintenance material like is often used in Arizona. Most common interest subdivisions are still not approving the artificial turf but the courts may rule otherwise as the drought continues.

So for now, until the real hot part of Summer comes, we can still enjoy the beautiful flowers even if we have to go to the nurseries to see them.

William,

We have not had any rules imposed here yet.  What is nice that during June glom we get a lot of dew, so much so that our fence drips with water.  Xeriscaping is a great solution.

We have 3 inches of mulch down, and we water once a week, the pots need twice a week.  And this too shall pass.  Have a great weekend A

Beautiful flower.  I'm surprised the HOA's are having a problem with the turf.  Out here, if it conserves resources, the HOA cannot rule against it by law.  I think there could be some arm wrestling over this one.  In the meantime, Let it Rain.

Hi William - Lovely Photo. That's very interesting about the CIC's not approving artificial turf. Everytime they have tried something like that here, they have had to back down.

I have had that "vanishing act" quite a few times recently.  Seems the grimlins got back in with that last "new and improved"

Now back to your photo... it's lovely and the colors vibrant and beautiful.

Hi William Johnson

I am using recycled water from inside the house to water my flowers. It will be sad if everything dies off this summer.

This week, I began to more consciously conserve water around my home.  I debated whether to plant the few tomato and pepper plants, I generally put in the ground each spring.  I went ahead and did so, and promptly did what Kristen talked about in her comment.  I used recycled water from inside the house to water them.

Thank you for the photo, William.  Hopefully the drought will pass.  If not, people and plants will adapt.  Grassy lawns never made much sense anyway.  Neither fertilizers nor pesticides nor hericides are beneficial to the environment.

William, We've got your rain here in Ohio.  A few days off of it, but starting tomorrow showers in the forecast again.  A good many of our early flowers have bloomed and we've got plenty more on the way.  Hope you get some rain soon!
