As this is our first entry we thought we'd say hello with some interesting stats concerning the most popular websites in Canada and their relevance to real estate.
MLS.ca is the 57th most popular site of all websites in the country. That's pretty good but not great. As the MLS is supposed to be the monopoly for anyone looking for listed houses anywhere in Canada, you'd think it would rank higher.
Here's some that did rank higher:
Kijiji.ca, Canada's biggest classified ad site ranked #17. Oddly enough, it is also one of the most popular sites for private sellers to advertise homes. Some agents are catching on. Just two spots lower (#19) is Craigslist, another world-renowned spot for home seekers. Google.ca, of course, ranked #1. No surprise there. Did you know you could advertise your house (including a map) on Google? It's called Google.base. Check it out at Google.ca.
So, who was the MLS.ca site more popular than? How about CBC Canada, all of the banks, Rogers Communications, Pay Pal (Ebay's financial engine), Apple Computers, Best Buy and Future Shop.
Of course, that doesn't mean much. It's just a cool tidbit that comes in handy when (as a real estate agent) you're trying to justify your value and relevance to society at family gatherings and parties.
By the way, Hamilton Home Review, the website I founded and edit, ranks #419 in Canada. Considering the thousands of real estate agents in the country, I figure that's not bad.
If you want to find out how your site ranks, all the above info came from "alexa.com" the official internet ranking site.
