You know how when you buy a new or new-to-you car that you start seeing other's similar or just like it?  Well that's been happening to me ever since I started blogging regularly on A|R.  It seems like every day I see a post from a web guru or I hear something on a podcast that validates the fact that I need to keep plugging away at building my online reputation. . .even before I really think I need it.  Uber marketer Seth Godin has stated that "The best time to plan for a sale in three years is right now." For instance:

If I was a real estate agent (I'm not) and it's oh say 2005, it would have been really easy to put off blogging and building my online presence because the market was up and maybe I wasn't having to dig really deep to find buyers for the homes I had listed.

But let's say I did start or continue my reputation building back then.  Right now I'd have about three years of content on my site(s). Even if I did get a disgruntled client. . .you can't please everyone all the time. . .and they decided to post something nasty about me, there's a whole lot of good stuff out there that would bury that one little blip in my record.  Besides that, nobody wants to burn $3+ gas to ride around looking at houses now.  They're at home on the internet looking for that perfect property.  Good thing Google is full of search results pointing at me when buyers are searching my area!

But when would I have time for blogging and online reputation building you ask? Well, you could free up some time by leaving your property photography to your local full service virtual tour provider :)

You're singing to the choir! I joined AR and didn't "get it". Let my membership lay unused, no blogging for 15 months. FIFTEEN MONTHS! Do you know how much business I lost? I can't quantify, but I know it was lots. Why? Because when I relocated to a new market and "got with the program" I was getting calls within 90 days BECAUSE they found me online...this when Google won't crawl my site because the new domain is under 6 months old. It's all in the long-tail keywords...

I have sent an invite to about 200 people and only 48 have accepted the invite, and of those 48, only about 5 actually blog.  Some people will never get it.  I blog and do my own virtual tours through multi-tasking and being a control freak!

It is exactly that way the more I participate in the blog and read about it the more I notice that every one is recommending the importance of participating in the Internet as a way to increase your own business.
