Announcing S.S.W.O.R.E. (Smart, Successful Women Own Real Estate) in Atlanta, Georgia

SSWORE

In an effort to continue to provide the highest quality real estate services to our clients, The Gebhardt Group has started a new division that focuses on women as homeowners and property owners.

According to the National Association of REALTORS®, "Single women represent 20 percent of buyers, up 50 percent during the past eight years. That's an amazing statistic! The NAR® goes on to say that "single women, represent the future of real estate sales."

Here are some other interesting statistics about women and homeownership, according to the NAR®:

  • The single female segment of the homebuyer population accounted for 18% of all homebuyers in 2004.
  • Single women purchased approximately one in five homes in 2003, while more than one in ten were purchased by single men.
  • More women (15.5 million) than men (11.8 million) lived alone. Among these, women were more likely than men to own their homes (56% vs. 47%).
  • About one-quarter of the nation's nearly eight million single mothers spend more than half of their incomes on housing, compared with one-tenth of households headed by single fathers.
  • Over the time period of 1994-2002, the number of unmarried females owning homes climbed from 13.9 million to 17.5 million.

But WHETHER YOU ARE MARRIED OR SINGLE, buying a home is one of the best long-term investments you can make. The money you pay monthly in rent could be much better spent by paying it toward a mortgage, with which you are basically investing in yourself and in your home's equity. Additionally, you can take that one step further and begin to explore the possibility of owning investment properties, such as rental properties or a second home.

We invite you to visit the S.S.W.O.R.E. (Smart, Successful Women Own Real Estate) website -- we'll be posting articles that are relevant and pertinent to women as home buyers and homeowners, as well as book reviews, information on credit and how it affects your mortgage worthiness, and more!

Hi girls...

Good post in that I have had several young women (single) purchase their first homes in the past 12 months.  Thus, I can attest to the validity of this trend.

I have had 6 single women buyers in the last year.  It is definitely a trend and I'm wanting to make this a niche of mine since I haven't seen any other realtors in my area focusing on this.  Do you have any tips or advice you could share?

Interesting.  I had no idea almost twice as many single women as single men were buying homes.

Hi, Stacie! Thanks for reading and commenting. We are just starting outon this path, so I don't know of any real advice I can share other than this: start with your female friends and past clients who already know and love you. I am having a small party/gathering and asking my female friends and clients and asking them to each bring a female friend. It' going to be a little bit party, a little bit homebuyer seminar and a lot of fun! =) I'll definitely be posting about it, so stay tuned for how it turns out. At this point, I'm looking at sometime during the first two weeks of May.
