Shelton CT resident Christopher Gallo's first book, Unlikely Champions: A Miracle in Williamsport, chronicles the amazing story of the 1989 Trumbull CT Little League's World Series win back in August 1989.
After 25 years the story of this remarkable win is finally told by Gallo which begins on the first day of practice in July 1989 and takes the reader on a journey through the 52-day tournament culminating with the win in Williamsport on August 26.
With the jubilant 40,000+ crowd chanting U-S-A, U-S-A! players excitedly circled the field proudly displaying their Little League World Champion banner. Truly -- A dream come true for the players, coaches, families and fans.
Along with the story of the events leading up to the unprecedented win, Gallo's story includes first-person interviews with many of the Trumbull Little League players and coaches telling how the experience affected their lives, the lessons they learned, and how they would advise a little leaguer today.
Gallo said he hopes readers learn " It's not about winning at all costs. It is not about the fame that comes from winning an important game with a worldwide audience. It is about playing the game and having fun, dreaming, working hard to make dreams come true, learning to trust your teammates and picking up your teammate when he or she is having a bad day.... It is also about kids learning to trust adults who teach them the game."
I personally am very happy for Chris and his accomplishment and success. We have been neighbors for just over 30 years and through those years we have had and still have individuals in the medical profession, along with law, finance, information technology, education, law enforcement, sales, plumbing and heating, and auto sales in our neighborhood. Now for the first time to my knowledge, we have a book AUTHOR!
Congratulations, Chris, and much continued success with your first book!
