Firstly this is written by a male.
Not that I am trusted to do the grocery shopping on my own, something to do with the things I buy and the things I don't. But enough said about that.
This is about saving money. And quite a lot of money.
My wife keeps and uses the odd coupon here and there, nothing manic. We certainly don't buy own brand produce just because it's cheap or because we have a coupon. I would like to think that we are average in our shopping habits.
So, one night while watching the goggle-box, there was a small piece in the program about The Grocery Game
This is basically a website you subscribe too (not much) and you can then download a list of items that are on sale at various local supermarkets. These are divided into "must buy" (a stock up item) and "buy if you need" items.
The system works on using the coupons available and a slight bit of buying and storing non perishable items.
Now in this little piece on the goggle-box, the women put in her trolley something like $500.00 of produce and ended up paying something like $80.00 the the trolley full. Well we sat there and nearly laughed.
Anyway they had a trial period ($1 subscription for 4 weeks) so we thought we would give it a try, more out of curiosity than anything.
Well, we have not paid $80.00 for a $500.00 trolley load of food, but we do save easily around 45% on our normal grocery shopping.
We did go to CVS, our bill was $51 and we paid $7 and they gave us $15 coupon to spend next time. Now that's not bad!!
I think a lot of the possible savings will depend to the produce you buy, your shopping habits and your willingness to do the things that the Grocery Game say, but after that I believe it works.
It's only using the manufactures coupons, Grocery Game just tells you how and when to use them.
We found that it turns the drudgery for shopping into............ The Grocery Game.
Have fun!
Alan - I did try the grocery game once, did save some money. I think I'll start it again :)
