In Dale Carnegie's book "How To Win Friends and Influence People", he lists six things to make people like you. One on his list is to make the other person feel important-- and do it sincerely.

I was talking with a friend yesterday about a job she had while in California. She is a retired school teacher and her last position was at a hospital as a Certified Speech Pathologist. She said that she loved her job because as soon as she put on her white lab coat, people started asking for her opinion, and that they listened when she spoke. She said the job made her feel important.
I moved to Gallatin in 2004 and never changed dentists. With the price of gasoline, I decided to try a local dentist. I got out the yellow pages yesterday and picked one that said "Voted Best in 2004"... those words meant a lot to me since I dread going to the dentist. I dialed them up and the receptionist was extra nice, very cordial and took down all my information.
Today, I received a packet of information in the mail from the dentist's office. The packet contained a welcome letter, a magnetized business card, two pamphlets... one on "Creating Beautiful Smiles", and the other "Facts About Dental Insurance", a welcome questionnaire to complete and take to them on the day of my appointment to provide them with all my information. I can't tell you how impressed I was. I immediately put their business card on the side of my refrigerator. Just a small packet of information made me think I was important to them.
I remarked to my husband, "this is a lesson for real estate agents". Just a short follow-up of a telephone call can make your customers feel important. After all, they are.
I represent buyers and sellers throughout most of the Nashville, Tennessee marketplace, including Davidson, Williamson, Sumner, Wilson, Cheatham and Robertson Counties of Middle Tennessee.

When searching for your dream home, it’s important to be well informed of the Real Estate market. To help you with this process, consider the following factors: What features do you require in a home to satisfy your lifestyle now? Five years from now? Will your needs change? What’s your budget? These are decisions only you can make, but I will do everything possible to match you with your dream home.
Jan this is extraordinarily good advice. And so simple too. People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care. So on the mark with this point and your dentist example illustrated it well in your own life.
