Is it just me? Where are the agents?

In my last blog I commented about having a difficult time getting feedback from agents after they show my listings. It stirred up a variety of opinions and comments- all that were appreciated but it made me think...... Is it me or are other people having a hard time not only with feedback but with getting a responce about almost anything from other agents.

This week....

-I have tried to get a responce from an agent about a listing... Are there stairs? it is a simple question that is not answered in the listing. I have left two messages and still have not gotten a responce.

-I tried to get property, lead and agency disclosures from a sellers agent on a property my client is ready to close on in two weeks. I left two messages.. no responce, so I got the lead and prop condition disclosures from my clients attorney. Left a message and talked to the sellers agent who two days ago said she was faxing the agency disclosure over.... Nothing yet.

- I left messages for the two listing agents on a property that another client is ready to close on, so that my client can leave smoke detectors in their clients home so that the home will pass inspection..... No responce.

I am probably one of the most patient people in the world but I am starting to really wonder what gives. Maybe I missed something and the market is not as slow as everyone says it is and these agents are so busy that they do not have time to return a call? The funniest thing was when I finally got one of the agents on the phone I said, "I don't know if you got my messages, but....." Her responce was,  "Oh yes I got them."  HELLO!! It is really sort of funny.

Yeah I have run into my share of realtors who don't like to call back or answer questions, email back etc, etc, etc lol. I have even come across one that didn't know the lock box #s have to call their assistant who gives me a list of #s to try for one home lol.

Yeah..I call them early in the morning on their cell phones..if their voicemail comes on..I don't leave a message..most agents call back, thinking they have missed a lead.....

Barbara - I am sometimes amazed at the lack of responce from listing agents. I once saw a sign in a yard under the listing agents that was hand written by the owner (I suppose) stating if the agent didn't return the call to call him.

And we wonder why real estate agents have a bad rep.  I am in the business because the agent I used for my home was so incompetent.  I knew I could do a better service in this business.  I run into this everyday.  I keep it in the back of my mind that those of us that DO our job will reap the rewards.....That's what gets me through when dealing with the crappy ones.

Barbara, if I don't get feedback from them I harass the heck out of them in the short term by email and cell phone. Then, if they don't call back I give up on them and move on.

I don't worry about the feedback angle so much as not being able to get the listing agent on the phone to schedule a showing.  It is appalling how often it will take days for an agent to respond to a request to show--and my clients have already left town.  Must have won the lottery or something...hope they're sharing their windfall with their sellers!
