Greetings,

Who are the baby boomers? They are the  population of people born between 1946 and 1964.  They are the generation that is redefining aging. Many baby boomers are still working, staying active and fit, and have no intention of retirement. Or they decide to stay in town, be close to the grandkids & take trips when they desire.  Now the stats are in that 72% of these baby boomers are looking and acting younger than previous generations.

What does this say about real estate? Many boomers are choosing to stay in their homes. They are not moving away, leaving family and friends behind in pursuit of a perfect climate or residence.

Approximately half of baby boomers want to purchase a large dream home, while the rest indicate it's time to move into something more manageable. Both will purchase thier next home within close proximity to where they now live. What are they buying? They are getting one story ranch style homes.Lots sizes have been smaller and more homes are 2 story these days. So if you own a single story home and it is in good conditon, it is very desirable. So are you marketing this generation? Are you forgetting about them? Are you coaching your builders to build high quality single story homes? If the answer is no, then you better get started. Most of these baby boomers, still want the high-end features in a smaller home, and are not willing to give up quality. The demand, for single story homes puts pressure on the already limited inventory of single story homes in Lane County, Oregon and many other areas.

 All the best,

Jan Sohlman
