First Impressions start with the Curb Appeal of your Home

In today’s Market, you've probably heard how important curb appeal is when you're trying to sell your home. Curb Appeal is important to 71% of homebuyers when choosing their next home.

The first thing buyers look at when they pull up to your home is the big picture -- the house, the yard, the flowers, the trees.

If Buyers don’t like the looks of the front of the home chances are they won’t even go inside. Buyers immediately will recognize whether Pride of Ownership exists or is missing and all it takes is a cracked walkway, dead flowers or dead branches on a tree.

When preparing your home for the market and making your list of all the things you need to fix or update it is important to budget and designate time to your landscaping.  As a homeowner, you can do some of the work yourself or hire some help. Here is a list of our Top 6 Most Popular Improvements you can do that will help you make the most of your home's drive-up appeal.

  .

1. Illuminate the way. Landscape lighting adds a big impact on curb appeal and doesn't have to be expensive.   Low voltage lighting that line the walkways and paths are great additions.  Using Spot Lights and other high voltage lighting on Trees can have a glamorous effect on the exterior of your home. Lighting also provides security.

2. Get rid of anything dead.   Put on your gloves and grab a rake. Dead leaves, flowers, and trees do absolutely nothing for your curb appeal. Clip it, rake it and bag it.  Fill in these blank areas with fresh flowers, small bushes, potted plants and mulch well for additional colour.

3. Weed and Cut the grass. If you cut your own lawn, make sure it's freshly mowed each week. Be sure to spray or pull Weeds for a great looking lawn. The trick to pulling weeds is to get the root out as well. Weeds will slide out of the soil easier when the soil is wet.

4. Plant some bold colours.  Incorporate brightly coloured plants into your landscaping to boost curb appeal. Colourful shrubs and perennials enhance a green backdrop as it draws the eye and engages the mind. Tropical plants with exotic blooms and safari-style leaves will add over-the-top colour to a seasonal landscape.

5. Replace or hide leggy bushes. Nothing ruins curb appeal faster than bushes with longer legs than torsos. Pull them all out and replace them. More mature shrubs and trees often look better limbed up and turned into a topiary tree-like shape since their lower limbs often look sparse. If you have any ornamental topiaries, try to stay on top of pruning. Mulch the area well too.

6. Improve both your softscapes and hardscapes of your landscaping.

Softscape is the living parts of a landscape. Softscape can be permanent like trees and shrubs and temporary likes flowers and ground cover.

Great Landscape designs incorporate Hardscapes which can be anything from Decorative Stone, Brick or Tile.  This can add a lot of appeal to your home. Adding a Water feature like a fountain is very popular and is sold a variety of price points.  An Outdoor Fire Pit is extremely popular with today’s buyers.

If you're not sure where to begin, go to your local home improvements story or local nursery supply store with a sketch or photo of your home and ask for ideas. Explain that you're selling your home and you need help with curb appeal. You may get a lot of free advice that's really helpful.
