Opting out, What a crock!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Phoenix

Opting out of allowing your listing to be shown in specific areas, what a crock!!

So, I listed a property this last week.  Good thing, right, I love taking listings especially in my South Pheonix and Laveen area.  This is were I work, where I market, so of course, love it when I list and sell homes in my specific area.

Back to the point of this rant, opting out.  So here in Phoenix our MLS has given individual brokers the right to opt in or out of sending their listings to portals, idx and so on.  So I decided to opt out of sending my listings to two locations, Zill** and Tru***, you know their name right?  So just looked it up and there they both area, my written description and everything.

WHAT A CROCK!!!!  This is flat out highway robbery, going in and taking realtors listings and promoting them on their own site, without any given consent.

Any you other realtors our there seeing this happen?  Frankly, I'm about not having anything going that way, or to any portal beyond IDX anymore.  Generally it is other realtors helping me sell a home, not a national portal!!!

I get opting out but isnt the whole point of listing to get the most exposure and I fail to see the benefit for not having it everywhere

It sounds like you weren't truly out. Not sure what this all means.

David Baker Realtor - Laveen Homes for sale Very soon if our local MLS Systems are unable to follow through on the agents directions regarding syndication, we will all just be demanding a replacement to The MLS System of just hold listings as "pocket" Listings.

I agree, giving the widest exposure is necessary.  We want buyers and their agents to see our listings.  I just have noticed, several portals don't really bring my clients buyers.  I have yet to see zillow/trulia selling one of my listings.  Actually most agents I see paying for a zip don't appear to do much business there.  I guess we could argue spending money on print add such as magazines, but not many of us do that either.  For my thinking, I don't see benefit of sending to z/t

Thinking outside the box

I understand your frustration David.

These companies are receiving revenue from your hard work.

But we want our listing to get as wide an exposure as possible.

I keep on hearing this "giveing a wide exposure".  You know though, that real estate is local.  There is actually just a handfull of us that sell the majority of Laveen homes.  I'm guessing might be the same for other areas in the country.  So, what exactly is giving "wide exposure"?  I would think getting it to buyers looking in area, agents working in area, sign posts etc. are likely better than many of the wide exposure options.  Just a thought.

This was interesting.  So it was said that every agent has the option of opting out.  Even asked my broker this question, and they said they give agents the liberty/freedom to choose how they market their homes.  Turns out that is not the case.  Broker gives them a direct feed.

So i pay a fee to broker, I work to get listing, and they get money (I'm guessing) to give my listing and other agents listings to the portals.  Nice!
