ASK AN AMBASSADOR: They Say Don't Discuss Religion
You've probably heard it said, in real estate don't discuss sex, politics or religion.
While sex in the title is almost guaranteed to get you clicks on your blog post, it's not something I'm going to discuss with clients and this paragraph is about all you'll see about it on our blog.
Politics? Our county is about 80% one party, so as long as you belong to that same party, you could probably freely wear the appropriate colored tie and not risk alienating TOO many people in our local market. But for me personally, I'm still looking for the first rationale political discussion on Facebook that doesn't turn into a massive bashing contest populated with the Gospel of the Left or the Gospel of the Right as people choose.
Religion? There I disagree about not discussing. It's an integral part of who we are. Our clients know Sunday mornings we don't show houses. That time is already reserved. Promoting our church's activities in our blog? I've got no problem with that either. Our Build The Walls event where we partner with Habitat for Humanity is a fantastic event and most years will probably rate at least three posts (one to announce, another to beg for more volunteers and a last one to tell you what a fantastic job everyone did building the walls for six homes).
Invite you to our Easter service? Sure! We'll blog about that so those in the area that might be looking for an Easter service home will have an option. Other activities make it here and there as we choose. Our beliefs are not always front and center in our blog posts, but they're always part of who we are.
Do we write these posts to gain more business? No. But it is part of letting people know a bit more about who we are. If that makes buyers and sellers uncomfortable and they choose another agent, we're okay with that. And if it gives them a reason to place their trust in us, well you can bet we're okay with that too. And yes, we've had both happen.
It's a personal choice for each blogger. You can set the boundaries as you choose. And of course, we help buyers and sellers of all beliefs and are happy to do so.
