It's official Coca Cola Speed Experience was a hit!
And I am beat up and wore out. I really don't know how people put shows like this thing on all the time.
I would like to thank Mickey Jones, Pat Travers, Kyle Petty, Jamie McMurry, Fiddling Jessy, The Lauren Ellis Band, John Boy and Billy, The Georgia Satellites and Rick Derringer and everyone else who came out, and Coca Cola for making all this possible!
I have to tell you a story about Mickey Jones, and a father who was with his son:
I walked into the VIP tent at some point in the afternoon yesterday and Mickey was signing autographs for this man and his son.
As the 4 of us walked from the tent, the son was on the phone calling his friends back home to tell them he got Mickey's autograph. He was so excited!
When I told Mickey about the son calling his friends, Mickey was tickled. I don't know if he ever gets to hear about what happens after he leaves the folks he meets, and what type of impact he actually has.
Mickey will stay and talk with you all day if he has the time. Thats just the kind of man Mickey Jones is, and he loves every minute of it.
Later that night, while Kyle Petty was in the VIP signing autographs I was walking along the fence where people were trying to get a look at Kyle and there they were, the man and his son.
I gave them the autograph Kyle gave me, but noticed the man held a photo of him and Kyle and a car waiting for Kyle's autograph so I took them to Kyle and he signed them, then I took them back to the man.
He was so happy and asked if I could do the same when Jamie McMurray got there. I told him, no promises but I would see what I could do. I then got permission to bring the son into the tent when Jamie arrived.
When Jamie arrived I went out and got the son found Jamie and Kyle at the stage and got Jamie to sign the son's car and a picture and something else. Jamie was really nice to the young boy.
This lil guy was sooo happy! I had been telling the father earlier about the St. Jude Event that Mickey helps us put on and he said he would try to be there, when I brought his boy back I told the father "I'll see you in April!" He replied "If I don't make it, you'll get a donation for sure!"
Rick Derringer takes the stage at 5pm tonight, come out!!! Steve and I are going back out today, Steve hasn't met Mickey yet, and they have a lot in common. Mickey is probably the nicest person out of Hollywood anyone has ever met, well actually he's from the Dallas Area but lives in CA now.
I think Mick the Clydesdale is going to be there today too. I'm glad I'm able to sneak into the VIP parking, my poor legs are rubber today, I was on my feet for 12 hours yesterday, I've not done that in years, but I'll be back for the next one! I've taken approximately 400 photos since the first night, I'll get some on my website as soon as I can!
LETS GO RACING!
It's going to be interesting to see who wins the 500 tomorrow!
