It's not like me to write a blog post to complain about this business. It's probably not a good idea for me to write this one. But some days I just can't keep it all inside ANY MORE. Today is one of those days. I've been a little under the weather. Anyone who knows me well, knows I run of out patience with misbehavior really quickly when I don't feel well.
So what is I want to complain about today? Lack of the respect of others for how real estate agents make a living, fake registrations on my website, and people behaving in a manner that is very unprofessional.
I'll start with the lack of respect. Some 9 months ago we had someone who wasn't even committed to our Lake Sinclair want to see some property. One of my agents happily showed the couple a few homes to get a feel for the area. Gave them information and registered them on our website to continue to get homes in their price range. Occasionally they would ask a question about this or that and my agent was always on top of getting them the information, but never once did they say they had decided to buy in this area. Well yesterday my agent got an email thanking them for sending the info and answering the questions on the house they are UNDER CONTRACT to buy on our lake with the sky in agent from another lake they looked at. Thanks, we really appreciate that lack of respect.
Now on the fake registrations.... some are worse than others with really vial and foul language sometimes. For the love pete folks, if you don't want to register, DON'T register. But honestly I really should not have to wake up and find dirty words in my email. Because hey person ... you really ARE a Butt Head and for those words I can't dare display in my blog you people are those things too.
Now on the the unprofessional-ism. Hypothetically if you had a client with a terminal illness you would tend to feel a little extra protective of them if you are an agent right? And for those consumers reading this you wouldn't want someone be "funny" to a friend who was selling and moving because they were about to die right? Sometimes humor just isn't appropriate. A home inspector that I have never met did an inspection for buyers I have never met and their agent who wrote the offer on my listing sent it over with a list of requested repairs. All good right?
This face had been photo-shopped on the refrigerator in the home inspection. Now some of you might find it funny or amusing, that's fine. I am not here to judge your sense of humor. But I AM here to protect my clients. And those clients have their own wagon already full of rocks right now and they were NOT about see this photo. I called the agent, got voice mail, left message. I called the phone number of the inspector right from the actual report and it was no longer in service. I checked to make sure I got the number right and tried again, yup, right number and yup no longer in service. In my opinion that inspector won't in be business for the long haul. Oh and I will also ad that the inspector gave the buyers an "estimate" of repair costs of 4 times higher than the contractor bid we did. Guess he would have LOVED to have gotten to do those repairs with his estimate. I just shake my head sometimes. I think it's a conflict for an inspector to be even doing estimates for repair. That's NOT their job.
Writing this post did NOT make me feel better. But I would like to ask anyone who happens to read it to please please please respect people in the service industry. If we are working hard for you and treating you with respect, honesty and fairness please give us those same things back.
Now I have to get back to work. My day started early and I have an appointment to meet with a buyer to get a signed contract where the seller requires an overnight of original documents at 8:45 p.m. an hour away from my lake tonight, so it's going to be a long day too. But for those buyers and sellers who are respectful and treat us well I will always go way above and beyond to make their purchase a smooth, easy and pleasant experience. I feel that's my job. So could all the nice people continue to call us, it's a pleasure to work hard for you. But if you're a butt head, if you don't mind, call someone else, and find houses on zillow.
And to add insult to injury at the end of the day I find myself consoling my daughter when my X husband can't be bothered to attend her college graduation family dinner. So if you please say a little prayer for my Abigail, I would appreciate it a big bunch!
