You Might Be From Connecticut If ________

Connecticut is the 3rd smallest state in the Union, and unfortunately has the distinction of being  one of the top 5 states for taxes.

The state has a long history of grand accomplishments as well.

Submarines

The state is known as the submarine capitol of the world as it is home to General Dynamics in Groton CT where submarines are made, as well as the US Navy sub base.

USS Eagle

When Connecticut natives think of eagles, we not only think of those beautiful flying birds, but also the sailing ship USS Eagle, which is docked in New London CT and serves as a training ship for the US Coast Guard Academy, which is also in that town.

When a family in Connecticut goes out for a little drive, it has to be just a little drive, otherwise they will end up in one of the neighboring states of Rhode island, Massachusetts or New York, which can be reached in less than an hour from the center of the state.

The CT Gold Coast, is home to many of the Fortune 500 corporate offices, and Fairfield County has the distinction of holding the highest per capita income in the country.

Bells

AT one time the largest bell manufacturer in the country had its manufacturing plant in East Hampton CT, Bevin Bros Mfg.  Correction offered by Maria Gilda Racelis

Clocks

Clocks and Locks have a long history in the state with many early lock companies starting in the Central CT corridor and clocks and watches as well,  It takes a lickin' and Keeps on tickin' had its roots in Waterbury CT.

Being a state that buffers New York and Massachusetts sports rivalries are strong and banners for NY teams as well as MA teams are prominently displayed on every other house front.

There are a lot of things that any state can think are negatives, but in our state, the positives still out number the negatives

If Connecticut is so small that is probably why taxes are so big.  Someone has to pay to keep it running! Great history lesson Ed, thanks!

Hi Ed.  You might be from Connecticut if you know it is also called the "Nutmeg State".  More points if you know what it means.

Good morning Ed. Great job with your post and sharing some distinctions that are to be proud of, unfortunately there are an equal number we could all do without.

Ed Silva, having lived "next to" Connecticut much of my life, it still always amazes me that it's the third smallest state. Being next to NYC I always think of it in "grand" terms.

Conrad Allen   No self respecting Resident of CT would acknowledge Nutmegger.

Maria Gilda Racelis   duly noted and corrected. What was I thinking as I had been to that factory many times.  It burned a few years back, however

When I think of Conn., I think of a drive to (Devil's Run?) a park in Connecticut for some water tubing.  I was living in Boston at the time.

It was a horrible, horrible date.  I ended up in the bottom of the river without any shred of macho dignity left.  Three young gals in hair & makeup (and maybe heels) were going by after my little fiasco and complaining about how this was such a wimp river to be tubing on.

Twenty+ years later, I'm still being reminded of how horrible that date was, though I was able to survive in the relationship.  I guess my intown dates had been good enough to prevent complete disgrace.

Sure, NY & Boston have all those sports teams, but you still have the Harford Whalers playing hockey!!
