If you see drones in the air this weekend over Santa Cruz, don't be alarmed! This weekend the Drones, Data X conference will be making its way over to the Bay Area this year setting up shop in sunny Santa Cruz. the Drones, Data X conference is a unique opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in commercial applications for realting to robotics, computer visions and unamnned aerial vehicles. You will also learn about some of uses for Drones that you may not have thought of, such as search and rescue drones that can go into collpased spaces to look for survivors without putting responders lives in danger.
The event will be filled with speakers talking on a variety of subjects pertaining to drones, from talks about the future of goods delivery, how 2015 will shape up to be the "year of the drone", to talks from the FAA about how the consumer drone market will evolve as rules and regulations about drone change in the coming years.
All the top players from the private and federal sectors will be on hand, showing demonstrations of their new products. Amazon Prime Air which has made news about using drones for it's delivery services, Facebook which has announced plans to use drones in order to bring internet access to remote areas. Leading companies in the consumer drones, the kind you can take to the beach or park to fly around, will also be on hand. DJI and Parrot, two leaders in the consumer drone market will be on hand showing off their new lineups, such as Parrots' Bebop drone.
Of particular note for those of us in the real estate profession is how drones can be used to enhances our ability to market homes to consumers. Drones that can map proprties will be of great use to those who are selling parcels of land, giving realtors the ability to quickly and efficiently snap pictures of properites or create aerial tours.
But, with all the amazing things drones promise, there are still a host of issues that come into view. Issues of privacy are of big concern, as anyone with a drone could take a picture of you and you may not even notice. Issues of safety as well, it won't be a good start to a day if a drone comes crashing into you. What are your thoughts on drones in the real estate profession and in general use?
