I often have to stop and realize how lucky I am. As a Realtor I choose to spend most of my office time at my formal home office and thus I get to enjoy one of the greatest fringe benefits of all…my family!
I do a lot of work in the field, and at our Keller Williams office. But I also spend a lot of time getting things done at my home office. When I moved to Greenville, SC I chose a modern construction home with a formal home office on the first floor. It’s great! Separate phone line for business, high speed internet, cable TV, photocopier, fax machine, printers….everything you could ever want to get the job done!
I work hard as a Realtor. As I type this blog on a Saturday, I was out showing homes to a client earlier this afternoon and I’m booked to show lakefront homes all day tomorrow, on Sunday! My family understands the sacrifices I occasionally have to make to progress in my career and be successful. However, they also expect me to be there for them during the occasional brief but special moments that pop up. These are the moments that I treasure!
I often find myself able to enjoy having lunch with my wife and our youngest son, Jason, who is not yet in preschool.
I’ll often drive down the road to enjoy some special activity or presentation being put on by my son Jacob’s 2nd grade class.
Sometimes I’m able to keep my schedule open on a Friday afternoon, at around 3pm, and I’ll take the whole family downtown to walk Main Street, visit Falls Park, enjoy dinner downtown and then hit the old fashioned candy store before we head back home.
While traditional employment scenarios may offer various forms of fringe benefits to the employee, Realtors enjoy the time freedom to stop and smell the roses every now and then! For me, the ability to enjoy brief yet treasured moments with my wife and children throughout the week is the ultimate fringe benefit!
As a Realtor, what are some brief, special moments that you enjoy with your spouse or children throughout the week?
Our profession does offer us much flexibility. And thanks to the aid of technology much of the preparation that we need to do, to get the job done, can be done in the comfort of our home.
