Saturday I get to add another graduation photo to my collection! There was kindergarten, middle school, high school, EMT school, paramedic school and now GCSU!
Hopefully in 5 years from now I'll be sitting in an auditorium watching her graduate from Medical School. She has always been ambitious and hard working. And I'm a super proud mama that she has been both working full time and going to college full time for the past year to get to where she needs to be to apply for medical school. She's going to be a wonderful doctor. She has compassion and strength and I think it takes both. She still has her internship ahead of her this summer, but classes are done until fall.
I know that she will never stop being willing to learn something new. She's always loved to learn. The time has passed so very quickly for me. I am sure it doesn't feel like that for her.
My pride and gratitude that my daughter has chosen a path of service and that she saves lives is a little overwhelming. There were a few things that I think helped shape her path, my uncle is a pediatrician and she just loved him, his wife, my Aunt Charlotte is a nurse and they were also always connected in a special way because she was there the moment Abigail came into this world. Then there was a friends mom being shot by accident when she was 6 and Abigail taking a "I watch rescue 9-1-1, I know what to do, I'm taking charge attitude" She handled that day so much better than me. Then in middle school while we were grocery shopping a woman died on the floor of the supermarket right in front of us and I think Abigail wanted to never feel helpless to save a life again after that. I also have an uncle who is a local fire chief and I think he had a certain amount of influence as well. She's also a trained firefighter.
I've never been one to tell her she could have anything she wanted, but I have always told her she could have anything she was willing to work hard enough to get. I'd like to end this post today with the quote she chose to have on her graduation announcement
"You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you'll win, no matter the outcome."- Patch Adams
