In 2003 the last segment of the 51 freeway (Piestewa Peak Parkway) was finished, connecting the 51 to Loop 101.  For years prior to that the 51 had exited at 32nd Street, making it the best major North/South thoroughfare in Northeast Phoenix.  The high traffic was annoying for residents but a coup for local business, many of which experienced great loss of business and have since closed with the completion of the 51.  So much so that the majority had to close their doors and very few have had their space filled. Sarah Sakalauski is a longtime neighborhood resident and a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker.  She says,  "Empty commercial space is a blight to any neighborhood and has the potential to lead to declining home values.  Fortunately the area is buoyed by its central location and highly rated school district."  As a North 32nd St corridor neighborhood specialist Sarah is excited about the plans to revitalize the area.  This will be my second in the series of local business spotlights around the North 32nd Street Corridor.

Sunday Cycles owner Joe Berman has been instrumental in leading the charge for the revitalization effort. Whether it's drumming up support for the View 32 luxury apartment complex or just being visible in the neighborhood, Joe has been an ally to the effort.  Here is a little bit about Joe and his business, Sunday Cycles Bike Shop.

Joe has always had a passion for cycling.  The fact that he had industry experience in the corporate side of cycling made the transition to shop owner a natural one.  In 2009 he decided that he would open a friendly neighborhood bicycle shop featuring the best brands of bicycles available.  "Honestly, it's pretty much like living in Mayberry. I own a business a half mile away from where I live. So my neighbors are my customers and the businesses next to me share the same customers and neighbors and we're just building this incredible community around the 32nd Street corridor. The influx of new and younger residents, will bring great, new businesses, highlight the existing businesses, raise property values, and we will ll see this amazing North 32nd Street corridor become the pinnacle of rebirth in this amazing city," says Joe.  Part of the revitalization effort is to make the area a hot spot for art and of course bikes.  So if you're planning on moving to the neighborhood, or you already live here give Joe a call or stop in at: 10880 N. 32nd Street, #19.  Just North of Shea on the West side of 32nd Street
