Whose Net Did You Slip Through?!

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Access Realty ~ 478.960.8055 anitaclark160@gmail.com

I have yet to figure out why it happens but it sometimes does. Something you write catches my attention or perhaps it is the other way around. We share pleasantries on each others posts, perhaps send emails, even an occasional call. Before you know it we are commenting on each others content on a regular basis. Through the fun posts, neighborhood information, and even the market reports, I can count on you to leave a comment and you can count on me for the same.

Whose Net Did You Slip Through?!Then it happens. One of us misses a day. No biggie. A quick message to make sure the other is OK. Then a short time-period later it happens again. And again. Then the comments become sporadic. Then they eventually stop altogether yet we both continue blogging and commenting on other posts. Without warning we are suddenly passing each other by here in the Rain, like strangers, not giving it a second thought. How did it happen? Why?

It does not happen with/to everyone though. I have followed some Rainers daily for years and some have done the same with me. I have often wondered why I have let some slip through the net without getting re-caught and others have stood the test of time.

Do we grow tired of each others content? Get angry or upset? Move on to more interesting Rainers? Change our focus? Something else?

What say you Rainers...if you have stopped commenting on someone's posts who you used to comment on regularly, care to share why (no names allowed)?

Inquiring minds want to know...well, one does for sure. ;-)

Anita, I think we all go through cycles of commenting and not commenting, blogging and not blogging.  Different priorities come up in our lives that divert our attention.  Sometimes we come across a post by an old friend and strike up the conversation again!

I read a lot of members' blogs.

I subscribe to those who post content of interest.  No special topic, just interesting.

I have unsubscribed to blogs if they disparage agents, consumers, lenders or others.  Alternative views can be described without disparaging others.

Hi Anita,

I agree with Raymond E. Camp.  When work and  just life in general, decrease the time we are able to spend on AR, it can take a while to get back into the swing of things.   Chuck Willman made a very good point.  I do find myself "Liking" posts and other comments, even when I do not leave a full comment myself.

Janis: I think you hit on the key reason why they are making the changes!

Nina: It is indeed getting harder...some days I am too tired to search too.

Brian: Sometimes that does happen and it is fun when it does.

Truer words have not been spoken. Thanks Richie.

Lenn: I think many of us do that...we also disconnect for the opposite reasons.

Karen: Clicking "Like" is much easier and sometimes it is all I have to offer too.

I am glad to see your blog on this topic and I have read all of the comments with great interest.

Many bloggers have faded away. A look at the Leaderboard shows many members who are no longer active and the inactive list includes many with the Ambassador designation. ActiveRain has a major membership retention problem.

It is easy for me to lose contact with others since most of my comments are made in response to comments on my blogs. If I do not hear from them, they may not hear from me.

Personally, I have reached the point where I am no longer able to even reciprocate on all of the comments.

I receive far more comments and likes on Facebook and Facebook groups and probably should focus my attention there rather than on ActiveRain.

There is no simple or universal answer for your question.

Actually I think sometimes it is that we find we just don't fundamentally agree with a lot of the opinions of someone else.  I know that has happened to me a few times. There are a few folks that I used to comment with that were just too negative for me and I had to move on.

Roy: I think the answer is whatever works best for the person making the comments. We all like reciprocation but that is not always possible or practical. Some will move on as a result.

I have done the same, Tammy. I have no time for that kind of drama and would prefer to stay out of the fray.

I have found that the new AR format has messed up my rhythm in commenting. I just need to get used to the new format.

I personally am trying to figure out how to network on probably toooooo big of an ocean.   I want everyone to be in my net!

Shanna: What has worked well for me is to give each activity (AR, FB, Pinterest, etc.) a specific slice of my time. Some get time daily, others weekly, and some (like profile updates) monthly/quarterly. It has helped keep my burnout to a minimum.

I try to stay connected.  I know folks have things happen in their lives that make it difficult to post or comments.  I just had a loss and have not been able to do much in the rain lately.  I hope to get back on track soon.. I guess it is important not to make assumptions.

Anita, during the time I've been blogging, so many people have come and gone from ActiveRain.  And now I'm going through a period when I just have other priorities - like my real estate practice. A lot just depends on what's going on in our lives.

Joan: No doubt, we all have different priorities, that often change. You never know the reason someone moves on unless they say.

Patricia: That is true for a lot of us. I know while I still enjoy this platform it is no longer a top priority for me.

I think its just like a real life relationship. You meet someone, feel them out, and then decide whether or not this person is someone you would like to connect with. Some people you like or are just more interested in than others, for one reason or the other!

We can only wear so many "hats" in this business.  I evaluate my ROTI (return on time invested) and my Wordpress site and e-newsletters always top the list. AR tends to receive less of my time and attention these days.

I am not sure why. It just seems like (a) it takes longer now (b) don't have the time or (c) both.  Think (c) is it!

That seems to be the case for many long-time Rainers, Norma.

C is definitely the right choice, Gary.
