Taking My Disposal For Granted

 

 

Nearly every home that I have owned has had a garbage disposal in the kitchen, it is a standard feature in most homes today. I older homes, like my first, I had to add it myself.

I don't know about you but I that the disposal for granted. Rinsing off the dishes before loading the dishwasher I hit the switch to clear the flow. I came across something a little different recently. It was not so convenient as this.

The older home did have a kitchen disposal all right but it wasn't so convenient. The switch was in the cabinet under the sink. That's right, to use the unit you had to open up the cabinet and flick the switch. It had been this way for decades. I hope to change this for them soon.

I've never had one.  They don't recommend them with septic tanks and we compost most of what folks put down their garbage disposals.  I suppose if I lived in the city it would be different.

Many misunderstand the purpose of the disposal Tammy Lankford , I have a septic and a disposal; compost too!

I remember days without a disposal, and the experience of having one the first time in 1964.  Yep, I distinctly remember the year!  Can't imagine life without one now!

It's funny how much we miss things that we never fully appreciated when we no longer have them.  It would be a bit of a hassle not to have a garbage disposal!

Hmmm.... the only trash disposal I had in older homes was the family dog and he never got into the cabinets!

That wiring isn't correct anyway.  When they correct that wiring maybe they can correct the switch!
