May Is Military Appreciation Month: How To Help In Charlotte, NC

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty 179530

Military Appreciation Month May 2015May 2015 is Military Appreciation Month... and if you live in the Charlotte, North Carolina metro area, here's just one great way you can help observe Military Appreciation Month and say thank you to all the men and women who serve us so bravely, essentially writing a blank check with their lives for us when they serve...

Please donate any cell phones you no longer use to the Cell Phones for Soldiers organization. Cell Phones for Soldiers uses proceeds from recycled phones to buy pre-paid calling cards for military personnel.

Here in Charlotte, North Carolina you can bring your phones to:

Cell Phones for SoldiersAmeriprise Financial at 8832 Blakeney Professional Drive/Charlotte, NC 28277. Once again, Mark Antonich of Ameriprise Financial, is spearheading this local collection event. You can donate through the month of May until June 5th. For more information about this drive: http://markantonich.com.

Not in the Charlotte, North Carolina metro area? Click here to locate a drop off location for the Cell Phones for Soldiers for your zip code.

And from the Military Appreciation Month organization,   here are just a few more ways you can support our military and veterans;

  1. Display the American flag at your home or business
  2. Encourage your local media to publicize area military and veteran events
  3. Send a care package to a solder
  4. Encourage your elected officials (local, state, federal) to recognize our military and veterans
  5. When you see a soldier or veteran, shake their hand and thank them for their service
  6. If your business offers miliatry discounts, make sure discounts are offered both to those who currentl serve and those who have served
  7. Hire a veteran

Let's not forget that today is Mother's Day and that there are lots of military moms out there, both who serve and whose children and husbands serve. Don't forget to acknowledge them as well today and thank them for their service and sacrifice.

Happy Mothers Day to Miliatry Moms

Sally K. & David L. Hanson ~ when I cleaned out the closet in my office I was surprised to "find" at least 3 phones that hadn't been in use for ages. I donated those.

Debbie Reynolds ~ as far as I'm concerned every day should be military appreciation day. It's good we think of them in special ways in the month of May, but hopefully we don't forget to express our appreciation during the other 11 months of the year.

Nina, what a great thing to do and the preferred drop-off point here is a place I stop at almost every day. You made it almost too easy! Here via Kathy Streib.

Good morning Nina. What a terrific program. I gave my old phones away before I moved but wish there had been a way like this to make a real difference.

Sheila Anderson ~ good Sunday morning to you, Sheila. This program has actually been around for quite a while, but always seems to fly under the radar, as they say. At one time, you could mail in your phones. Now lots of businesses provide drop-off points, which makes it easy to contribute.

Nina Hollander Great post. We here all the time about HOAs that bring violations to residents for displaying the American Flag. I feel that we all should do so daily and thank veterans for their sacrifices. Thanks!

Thanks Sandy and Norm ~ everytime I hear one of those stories about a flag being considered an HOA violation, I see red. Fortunately, in Charlotte, majority of our communities with HOA's allow for one flag to be flown. But this business recently of stomping on our flag and taking it down everywhere is beyond my comprehension!

Thanks, Kristin. I posted it last week and it got some traction, but Kathey's feature has really pushed the message out there. Thanks, Kathy Streib, for helping get the word out on such a worth cause.

Hi Sharon Tara ~ I think if there are not local drop off points, there's a central place to can mail them to. Check on their website.

Rebecca Gaujot, the GO TO REALTOR ~ our soldiers deserve all the connections we can provide them to their families when they are serving. This is such a great cause.
