Warbirds Over the Glades AirShow- RC Planes Take to the Skies.
Last Saturday, Larry and I went out to see Warbirds Over the Glades AirShow sponsored by the Palm Beach Radio Control Association and held at West Delray Regional Park and it was spectacular.
RC enthusiasts are fortunate to have this huge park that Palm Beach County has for all kinds of outdoor activities, including a biking path, archery field, kayaking, RC cars, RC helicopters and RC Planes.
Larry and the other flyers can come out to the field and fly with others who share the same interest. The club has a solar charging station and a small boat and golf carts for those times when the planes decide to fly into a tree or elsewhere. (The park sits on the edge of the Everglades.)
Where: West Delray Regional Park
10875 Atlantic Avenue
(Take Atlantic Avenue west until you can’t go
anymore)
To be able to fly at the field you must be a member of the AMA (the Academy of Model Aeronautics) but anyone can go out to the field and watch in wonder.
As many times as I’ve been, I have to admit that there have been times when we could not tell an RC plane from a real one.
One note- if you think that the hardest hobby any of us over a certain age undertakes is shuffleboard, think again. Many of the members are Veterans who themselves flew in the Viet Nam War.
