3 Keys to Becoming More Resilient

Although it’s essential to plan for the future, there are times when life throws a wrench in the works. While some folks give up when faced with a challenge, the most successful people assess the situation at hand and find ways to deal with it. The difference between the former and the latter: Resilience.

Resilience is what motivates us to move forward when there are obstacles in our paths. It gives us the strength to work through hardships when it would be so much easier to give up. People with resilience are able to overcome the odds and learn from the experience so that they’re better equipped to handle challenges in the future.

Here are three ways to build your resilience:

1. Rethink problems. On the journey toward reaching your goals, you’ll encounter obstacles and set-backs along the way. It’s normal to grumble and complain when these hiccups occur. However, instead of seeing them as a burden or dissolving into the “why me?” mentality, view your problems as challenges and learning experiences. When you reframe problems as an opportunity to learn, you’re better able to handle similar challenges that may crop up in the future.

2. Get perspective. It’s all about perspective—how you view your situation, your challenges and your outcomes.

• Be grateful for what you have. Acknowledging and expressing gratitude for what you have helps you to maintain perspective when challenges arise or times are tough. Sure, you may have missed out on one listing, but you’ve also closed five more transactions than you did at this time last year.
• Look for solutions. Resilient people are solution-finders. They’re able to think on their feet to find a solution that moves them toward their goals.
• Lean into your skills and talents. It’s easy to take your natural and learned skills and talents for granted. However, the best time to tap into them is when challenges arise. Understanding that you have all the tools you need at hand can help you shrink a mountain-sized problem into a tiny hill.

3. Have a ‘why?’ Your ‘why’ allows you to maintain perspective and find greater meaning in your life. Instead of seeing challenges and set-backs as horrible things that happen to you, you see them as necessary experiences intended to help you reach your goals. It gives you the motivation you need to rise above instead of becoming bogged down by problems and set-backs.

Thanks!

Great points! I agree with the have a why. It is so important to keep in mind why you are striving to do something. It gives perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Some days, I also need to think to ease up off the gas pedal.  Going 110% at all times does burn me out.
