ND Real Estate 101, A Text Signature
After reading Jerry Lucas's post Digital Advertising Disclosure it made me think about text signatures (even though it had nothing to do with text signatures). Jerry did address it after I commented about it however.
In North Dakota our Real Estate Commission made it clear that all texts sent by North Dakota agents are required to carry such a signature. While some agents have whined about it when I bring it up I must say that as far as I know I'm the ONLY agent who actually uses a compliant signature in our local MLS. I'm not complaining, I love this little reminder to keep my name out there, my association with National Marketing Realtors, and my web address.
An example of a practical application came up today. Yesterday I showed a client 4 houses. I texted each sellers agent for permission to show. They all texted back today asking how the showing went. Only one was on my favorites list. None of them had a signature. I replied to the one I knew but I had no idea which house belonged to the other 3 because I had no idea who was asking me? Had they had a signature I would have called back and said "Jane, they passed it by because..."
My text signature is simple marketing and it also makes me compliant with the North Dakota Real Estate Commission.
