'Twas the night before House Hunters, and I'm blogging in bed.
Visions of "recreating the buying process" dance in my head...
It’s been eight months since we finished filming my House Hunters episode – and it’s finally time to see the finished product… EEEK! I’m slightly terrified to see just what fragments from my 20-ish hours of camera time will make the final cut. 
People keep asking me if I’ve seen the show yet.
“Not even a preview?” they ask in disbelief. And, the answer is ‘no’.
I will be seeing the show for the first time surrounded by the other agents that work in my office and their families, my immediate family, and Matt – thank goodness – who cut his work trip short after I called him saying, “I really think I need you here for moral support.”
People ask me if the show is scripted; it is not. HOWEVER, I was fed one line that will make me want to hide under my chair if it appears on TV. My buyers were looking for a specific type of room for their pet birds… And, in one of my ‘confessionals’ (where I talk directly to the camera which is only positioned about 12 inches from my face), the director told me to say (in regards to my not picking a house with a good ‘bird room’)…. “I am not a bird mom.” This is not a sentence that I would ever utter without specific direction.
If from over 40 total hours of filming – that one phrase makes it into the final 22 minute show…. It may just haunt me for the rest of my life.
On multiple occasions, I was also asked to ‘announce’ where we were in the house. There are some agents on the show that repeatedly ask questions like, “Do you want to see the kitchen? Do you want to see the backyard?” I purposely, and successfully, avoided that ridiculous question; but I found my clutch phrase to be, “And here’s the ______.”
I can almost promise you will hear me say, “And here’s the _____. ” each time we enter a new room.
One other noteworthy item. The air conditioning was struggling in one of the houses on the day of filming…. in August. And, it was HOT in that house! The director kept following my buyers around, powdering their faces. When I asked if I was okay, I just got a quick sideways glance and a, “Yeah, you’re fine,” before she went back to dusting Jordan’s face with a bushy make-up brush. So, if I’m a hot, sweaty mess in one house – you now know why.
That’s all the “things to watch for tomorrow” things I can think of. Here’s hoping I don’t royally embarrass myself tomorrow night!
. By the way, how is it that agents get on that show? I will be sure to dvr the show!
