Where's the CHEAP Gas via the Net?

By
Real Estate Agent

What a difference in the cost of filling up my car’s gas tank this morning, from just a few weeks ago.

It seems just like yesterday that I actually saw fuel in the Sacramento area priced below $3.00 a gallon.  However, today I paid $3.65 for regular grade gas at my local Valero station.  Each year prices seem to ramp up as we approach Memorial Day weekend.  The industry also blames refinery issues, and the fact we Californians don’t use just any grade of gas. We like our’s blended to the perfection of the gods, who make the skies blue.

While exploring the internet looking for the cheapest gas prices, I found several resources available which may help you as well.

Here are a few that I found:

Gasbuddy.com (by state and province):

http://www.gasbuddy.com/GB_StateList.aspx

Internet Auto Guide (cheap gas near you):

http://www.internetautoguide.com/gas-prices/index.html

Motor Trend (cheap gas prices):

http://www.motortrend.com/gas_prices/index.html

Fuel Economy (government website on gas prices):

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/FEG/gasprices/states/index.shtml

I hope this helps!

Myrl,

The last one they took out of mothballs (earlier this year) was the refinery that had a serious fire which would delay the production, and now that it is back in operation the price is even highter.  Funny enough, we have noticed that prices in LA are so much higher, than here.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - Yes, that fire was a legitimate delay.  I haven't understood why LA prices for gas should be so much higher either.  They are a port city, and with so many refineries nearby, it doesn't make sense.

we always use gasbuddy when we travel.  We know the cheapest local prices on fuel, but for traveling it's wonderful.

I love Gasbuddy.  Gas ranges are enormous across Chicagoland.  I make it a point to find an inexpensive location when I attend an appointment or event.

I'm totally confused with the price of gas . . . . there is a surplus of gas available  . .  . . yet the price of gas is going up.

Good luck and success.

Good of  you to share the link to sites where drivers can check gas prices  this will be very helpful as we head into the summer months and family hits the road for their annual road trips.

I use gasbuddy but in reality I have found that driving 10 miles and using 30 minutes time to save a few cents is costing more than filling up close by. I try to plan my routes to take advantage of the lower gas prices whenever I can and not get down to a have to situation.

The summertime formulas to reduce evaporation raise the cost for gas production and we will continue to see higher prices during the hotter months.

Always good to know what the prices are before we are forced to fill up when we are riding the needle on empty.

I am so incredibly disciplined that I typically visit the same gas station. Because I know which way to park my car so my gas tank is on the right side, and I don't have to mentally think about it. Pumps along Broadway, one way, pumps along Riverside, the other way. Plus, I know where the hole is to stick my stinkin' credit card. I multi-task and can't afford to waste time thinking about filling up my car.

Myrl,

Those area helpful gas is going up here to I do not see why people are so scared about oil prices going down, what goes down must come up!

Myrl, you are correct as the gas standards in CA are different than all other parts of the country. Refiners costs are higher and environmental standards are stricter in CA. I think I paid $2.35 per GA for reg 89 grade gas yesterday for our old beater car I am driving while I hope our mechanic can fix mine.

Myrl Jeffcoat Those are some nice places to search for cheaper gas. Driving a few extra miles is certainly worth it in the long run. I just filled up the other day in San Antonio at $2.49 per gallon of regular. Our prices in Texas is cheaper than most other places in the country.

Myrl, I wonder if this Plains Pipeline spill will have a negative or upward movement impact on the prices of gasoline? I hope it gets cleaned up properly.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat

It is so frustrating how the gas goes up and down and then back up. I try to buy my gas at Costco but sometimes go to the local gas station when I am in a hurry and low.

Myrl,

The prices of gas even in Houston went up before and now after Memorial Day. I paid $2.71 per gal for super this morning. I know it is a lot cheaper than CA. Gas oprices always rise around memorial Day as it is supply and demand. Travel by car and palne was uppose to be up by over 5 % this year across the country.
