 Colorado Solar Panels

I love the land and live the land. My small home in Colorado is powered by the sun.

I was wondering if there are any other solar powered realtors on line. I could search forever on Active Rain looking at your profiles and still never know. If you are one I would like to hear from you. It is time for new batteries and feedback from solar users is invaluable. I have lived off my system for ten years now. I run a gasoline powered back up generator. I have a 220 step-up inverter for the well,  a power center along with a small 1250 watt Trace inverter for a 12v system or is it 24v(?) system.  I am wishing for a  cloudless blue sky full on sunny day tomorrow. It is time to equalize.

If anyone knows of a good group for solar issue let me know

The Eco-REALTOR designation is my next goal.

ECO-All-Stars~ GREEN is one of my current favorite blog groups. I wish I could make that link green. I am sure in the future I will more capable of making that happen. Right now my HTML skills are a little rusty.

Sabrina- I hope there are others like you. I'm not but wish I were... there's little excuse in Arizona not to have solar... but we're getting there as the prices are starting to reach the tipping point. I admire your commitment to eco-concerns.

Hi Sabrina - sounds like you have a lot more experience with the batteries than me! It's great to hear your experience and that you have survived ten years off the grid! And you look normal enough to me!!! LOL!

Good for you in doing your part to utilize natural resources! Welcome to the ECO AllStars! It sounds like you will have some great, experience based contributions!

Very impressive Sabrina.  At this point I am far from being solar powered but try to be more "green" each day.

Sabrina  - looks like you have a beautiful place there in Colorado. I'm no expert but from what I know of solar installations  supposedly the inverters should be replaced about every 10 years. Maybe that could be  your problem instead of the batteries. Also there are chemical electrolyte packs for batteries that provide a boost for the chemical process.

I'm adding a link to battery information so you can make a more informed decision about your problem.

This blog post laid dormant for six weeks so I am glad that the Rainers finally picked it up. Thanks for all the good information. Although I live off the grid I still don't have the time to learn all I need to know to maximize the system.

And again if there are any other off the grid realtors on this network or in your communities I would love to hear from them.

Hi Sabrina - I'm an off grid realtor, and I know at least on other ( not on AR).  We have been in our current off grid location for 18 years.  Before that we had an off grid "camp", so the transition was easy.  My husband is very handy and I have to admit he does it all, I just enjoy it.  Do you do it by yourself?  If so, you are brave.  It must be tough in the winter with the short days - I know we have to generate a few times in the winter over here.  Do you also use wind?  We do and we LOVE it.  I am going to "associate" with you, so I can remember how to find you!

Aloha !

Georgina,

It is terrific to hear from another solar off the grid Realtor. I am looking into wind power for the winter supplementation and I am also in the market for new batteries as my Trojans have given me a full 12 years.

Do you know of a good battery source aside from Real Goods?

Thanks for the association.

Sabrina - I'm not sure where we get out batteries, I think we rder them through our local supplier.  Haven't bought anything from Real Goods in years.

I have 12 new L-16 wet cells on order. I can't wait for them to be installed. I also am amazed that my current batteries still have life after 12 years of continuous use. I am going to move the old ones to the barn and they will be a nice night light source away from the main house. I will be living in the lap of luxuary once they are installed. The summer sun has been incredible and I will be able to live like I am on the grid once they arrive..

Thanks for the the green link Dena. My new wet cells were installed this week and  I haven't seen the indicator below green even with the monsoonal afternoon clouds rolling in at high sun time.
