Did you mean global or globing?:)

Ron,

I woke up this morning with a headache from too many drinks...should I blame myself? I guess so since it was my fault and also I'm the Realtor(R) too:)

I had a Client once try to blame me.  I look ed him and said "yes, it is true, I really wanted to do all this work and not get paid".  The Client changed his tune really fast!

04/13/2008 10:00 AM by Rick Tourgee - Provincetown and Cape Cod (Century 21 Shoreland)

Neal it is true that plenty of times we will be the scape goats for whatever the problem happens to be. It seems it goes with the turf in our business.

04/13/2008 10:08 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

I am a mortgage broker and yes it is always YOUR fault!!  Actually we always hear it the other way around but enjoyed it none the less

04/13/2008 10:11 AM by Scott Benson (Connect Financial Services)

Neal I'm beginning to see a pattern here, just so I understand your point no matter if things that happen are good, bad or we had no control over it's still our fault..I'm I getting this right..I'm to blame.. very funny stuff thanks for the post.. Steve

04/13/2008 10:11 AM by Alpine Lakes Real Estate

Very cute. But i've heard of many of those and yes we get blamed for everything.

04/13/2008 10:17 AM by Robert L. Brown~Grand Rapids Real Estate Flexit Realty, West Michigan (www.mrbrownsellsgr.com)

This is hilarious, Neal.  Had the type of day yesterday that made me want to write a similar post.  Within the first 2 weeks on the market for a new listing, I had the virtual tour shot and posted, 2 agent caravans, vflyer completed, promoted at 3 different networking groups, posted on my blog, 500 full color just listed postcards mailed to targeted potential buyers ... and got crusified over the photo on my color flyer.  I mean absolutely lambasted.  I did the only thing I could do.  I gave the listing back.  Life's too short, especially in this market.  As a Realtor, I blame myself ;)

04/13/2008 10:18 AM by Paul Slaybaugh, Scottsdale AZ Real Estate (Realty Executives)

Ah the old REALTOR PINATA trick!  Ans when in spite of all these things you still close your home do you ever think of thanking your Realtor?  Great post, very true!

04/13/2008 10:22 AM by Jim Crawford ~ Atlanta Real Estate-ABR E-PRO (RE/MAX Greater Atlanta)

Neal: This is so funny, and yet at the same time NOT.

One thing about our business is we must have skin as thick as leather to survive because honestly, our clients will always BLAME us. One time only I cried because I took it personally when someone "blamed" me. I think that was about 20 years ago....

Then in Scarlett O'Hara fashion, I picked myself up and vowed I would never, ever, take anything personally again in the business world, and told myself that accepting blame was part of my job.

I also tell everyone who wants to get in the business this...if you aren't strong enough to take the blame even when it is not your fault, stay away from this business.

So my policy is this: when things go wrong, I always tell everyone right away and accept all of the blame. It is funny how that always seems to diffuse the situation. Everyone involved feels bad because they KNOW it really isn't my fault, but I am there front and center willing to take the blame.

They actually try to convince me that it isn't my fault. Is this reverse psychology? I don't know, but this policy seems to work for my Realtors as well as my clients.

04/13/2008 10:25 AM by Janet Guilbault, California Mortgage Expert (Peregrine Lending Company)

Funny, I'm in mortgage and I feel the same way.

04/13/2008 10:30 AM by Ken Horst (Metropolitan Financial Mortgage)

Rick,

Just change the station on your radio:)

Bill,

Thats why I wrote it....and I wasn't even blamed for anything!

Scott,

I won't mention the fact that even if it is your fault...you guys always say that you're not a party to the contract.

Steve,

I also thought if I could make it a little funny that no one would take it personally...but you can still blame the Realtor(R).

Robert,

Even the media blames us!

Paul,

I guess in our business...the clients are just hard to please sometimes no matter what we do to make it better.

Jim,

I know you love those sayings...we were talking about it on the phone.

Janet,

As long as we continue to work hard and get the job done....there still can be a reason just to blame us. I once had a client blame me for selling his home too quick...I asked him if he wanted me to hold back the offer a few days...he laughed and thanked me.

Ken,

Then it's your fault and not mine:)

Missy,

I always have a few laying around in my bag:)

Neal - I just closed a new home, I got blamed because the buyer locked the rate for 21 days, against advice on the short lock.  It would have had to close before it was finished!  (It was my fault?  I fixed it, though)

Well, that was pretty funny to open up AR today and read your blame game. How about the buyer that wants to keep looking (and prequalified too so you believe they're serios) and then after a few days of showing....decide they're going to rent.....and blame the Realtor®?

This is good stuff.  I wish I could say that most of it wasn't true.  We do get blamed for much much much in this business.  I'm glad you did it with a touch of humor.

Isn't it the truth.  Buyers strike out at the Realtor® when they don't understand what's going on, are met with unrealized expectations, make misrepresentations and can't accept responsibility, or just plain alway have to blame someone else for anything bad in their lives or any disappointment.

I have no problem with the buyer or seller blaming the Realtor®, as long as it's "the other" Realtor® involved.

04/13/2008 03:54 PM by Lenn Harley, Homefinders.com, MD & VA Real Estate

Neal, My mantra is "Blame the OTHER Realtor!" Works for me.

04/13/2008 04:01 PM by Bryant Tutas-Tutas Towne Realty, Inc

Jason,

how about I take the blame on Monday,Wed,Friday and you can take Tue,Thurs, and Sat.

Virginia,

Next time they let them get locked out.

Tracy,

I get wood destroying organisms but not termites unless the home is very old..but their is always something coming out of the wood work:)

Vickie,

I think the only way to avoid that one is to claim death:)

Sally,

I would only blame the Realtor(R) if buyer asked them to pay the rent for them.

Kimberly,

It's all in humor but so true sometimes.

Kirk,

You can alternate with Jason or any other MB on here that deserves it:)

Richard,

I never said it happened to me...I was just writing a poem and this came out of my little fingers from 12 yrs worth of RE.

Debbie

:) At least you found a different person to blame.

Billie,

And I wrote this before I read your post and now it's true!:) Ain't that the truth!

Steve,

Blame the Realtor(R) and your therapist!

Lenn,

I don't have a problem with it either as long is it isn't my client:)

Hey Neal, those are too funny, but it's unfortunate when they do blame us for things that we have no control over, that often, we warned them about and they decided not to take our advice.

04/13/2008 04:20 PM by Vickie Arcuri - Ft. Lauderdale Real Estate (EWM Realtors- Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell, Inc.)

Hey Neal - oh yeah, it's the blame game and we're the number one target!  Personal accountability by those who really should be stepping up to the plate would go a long way to taking some of that blame off our shoulders.  And then actually explaining the processes and setting realistic expectations would help with the rest.....

Ann

04/13/2008 04:21 PM by Portsmouth NH Real Estate ~ Ann Cummings (RE/MAX Coast to Coast - Portsmouth New Hampshire)

Vickie,

Well maybe they can't blame us for the pimple...oh wait..yes they can..they can say it was from the stress of the transaction:)

Ann,

Number one target....I wonder how many of them have the Realtor(R) dartboard at home.:)

04/13/2008 04:34 PM by Neal Bloom-Realtor ® Assoc.-CRS-Weston FL (RE/MAX Premier Associates)

I just added this one.....When you blow off your appointment with your Realtor® and don't call to cancel...blame your Realtor®

04/13/2008 04:51 PM by Neal Bloom-Realtor ® Assoc.-CRS-Weston FL (RE/MAX Premier Associates)

Neal- The truth is - we are to blame.  We just need to educate our clients with a new "blame" list.

* When the buyers are sellers are so far apart that they appear to be on different planets, yet a successful negotiation makes both parties feel like winners - blame the Realtor®

* When the inspector scares the &%# out of the buyers, yet someone calms them down and works thru each issue - blame the Realtor®

* When the mortgage is turned down because the bank used an appraiser from across the state, and comps are presented that enable them to reappraise and approve the loan - blame the Realtor®

* When time is of the essence and someone stays on top of all parties, to make sure the dates are met - blame the Realtor®

04/13/2008 04:53 PM by Marilyn Katz - Westport, CT Real Estate (Prudential Connecticut Realty)

Wait, so when my dad blames me for being too independent and scare away prospective husbands, can I blame you? ;)

Cheers,

You know you can pretty much take out "blame your realtor" and put "blame your mother" and that almost works too!

04/13/2008 08:33 PM by LaNita Cates (REMAX of Joliet)

Neal, I think since you can handle it...I'm going to start blaming you to take the heat off me LOL

Thanks for your insight though.  You'll all too correct.

04/13/2008 08:34 PM by David W. Bolick (Network Real Estate, Inc.)

Cindy,

I won't want to mess with your dad:)

LaNita,

I didn't want to mention mothers because I thought it might be too personal to some:)

David,

Funny and they wouldn't know who you were talking about unless you throw me a deal.

04/13/2008 09:18 PM by Huntsville, Alabama Real Estate Agent Elizabeth Ramsey Cooper (Remax Huntsville/Madison)

HAHA.....so we are the reason that steaks are all fat. Gee, I didn't realize that. LOL. I loved this. It was funny. It made me smile. Hey, who do we get to blame?

04/13/2008 10:55 PM by Christy Powers - Pooler, Savannah Real Estate Agent (Keller Williams Coastal Area Partners)

When the buyer spends the deposit just days before closing and cannot complete. That has got to be the REALTORS fault without a doubt!

Hi Neal,What a great list and now you have even more to add with the contributions here in the comments. Neal you should send this in to the newspapers in your community. I would bet at the very least you could get into the Editorial pages. But I would publish in the main paper and think of the publicity. Do something creative with this one.

People love to get a message disguised as slightly humorous but with a bit of a sting. You single handedly could make a lot of people feel guilty and maybe even change they way they think.

04/13/2008 11:56 PM by The Real Estate Text Book authored by William Johnson GRI CRS e-PRO (RE/MAX Associates)

I couldn't agree more. Why are we lightning rod when things go bad. Granted there are those out there that may mis-guide someone but, for the most part the things that go wrong are in no way our fault. There's a interesting thread on my local craigslist rant and rave section entitled..."Why are ALL realtors liars?"

Gotta love the ignorance. I guess everyone needs someone to point their fingers at.

04/14/2008 12:15 AM by MARK GUNDLACH (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage)

Elizabeth,

If you take the day off and lose a sale...just blame yourself:)

George,

I blame you for everything that happened in the last two years:)

Christy,

The steak was my fault..it looked so good under all the tomato sauce:)

Tom,

After all....they will say we placed the bet for them:)

Thesa,

Very rare occasion:)

Ferdinand,

Only if you can find the broker. They are always out to lunch.

B and C,

My dog blamed me for not taking him out last night after he pooped on my floor:)

William,

I'm not looking for the publicity accept in the blog but if someone called me I might chat with them on it.

Mark,

Some of them are...and some just give our industry a bad name but so does all the other industries..there is always one bad apple to spoil the rest.

When the NAR runs commerials every day lying and telling everyone nationwide "It's a Great Time to Buy Real Estate."  Then, I do blame Realtors.  I blame all of us for allowing our PAC $$ to be spent on a deceptive advertising campaign that makes us look sleazy.

Yeah, I always say to the client that they will have no one else to blame and when they feel like there is nothing else they can do it will be my fault. Just part of our business, but I educate my clients before that so they can see what's happening. A good thing to put in your FAQs listing paperwork

04/15/2008 02:50 PM by Spokane Real Estate - Ross Quintana (Team Quintana Real Estate - MJ McAdams Realty Lic#3015)

Funny... I used to blame the Underwriters!  Now I know who the real culprit was.

04/15/2008 03:17 PM by James Jeter - Credit Repair Specialist (Coast to Coast Credit Services)

Ross,

I'm trying to make light of a situation that most of those come into play....even if you explain up front some just don't listen until then end...it's the smart one's who realize that most of those are out of our control.

James,

Underwriters don't care...they get the file after it's already approved by the LO or MB so if they get it and have changes and it falls through...we still get blamed because they claim they aren't a party to the contract when in essence they really are....if you look at the financing clause it states whether or not there is a mortgage...but we still get the blame.
