Hey, folks!  Hope you're having a relaxing Sunday morning!

It's been a good couple of days since I've been up in the Blog-o-Sphere - been fighting a nasty fever and the flu.  I'm one of those guys who only gets sick like this about once every three years or so.  Well, now, I guess, is my time!

Yesterday morning was the first in I don't remember how long I didn't check the MLS Hotsheets first thing.  I had two showing appointments - luckily, my wife, and business partner, Sue, covered.  Kathleen Weaver-Zech, our Buyer's Specialist,is covering the crisis-du-jour with on of our more "high maintenance" buyers.  Listing Specialist Jeff Ardito is working with one of his own Buyer Clients putting together a contract for a Vintage Home in the Independence Park Neighborhood, on the Northwest Side of Chicago.

Fortunately, our Team structure of Four Licensed Agents allows opportunity for coverage - often lacking if you're truly a sole practitioner or without licensed assistants.

But there are some things, of course, only YOU can do.  Yesterday, I had to haul my butt out of bed to answer questions on the lot size for a tear-down property I have listed.  A co-op agent had some detailed questions about the association for condo I have listed and her client is considering.  Even something simple like sending out a PDF file attachment with a signed contract to another co-op agent - Sue had difficulty doing this, so I had to step in.

In these situations, it would be easy to say - "It'll wait!"  In fact, I have encountered many co-op agents that act this way, and I am sure you have, too.  But sometimes, to keep business rolling, you have to "step up", even when you're feeling lousy physically!

Selling Real Estate is a business, folks - not just a job!   It's sometimes like you're The President - take vacations in Crawford TX all you want - but in the event of a major crisis, you have to handle it!  (We would hope, anyway!)

Would be curious on your opinion, your outlook, and your system for covering your business when you're feeling less than perfect.  Please share!

In the meanwhile, I'm going to have another shot of Brandy, and rest a bit!

I am very fortunate to have colleagues who work with me and will cover for me when I am in a bind.  Michael and Lynette work with me on my short sale business and I trust them fully.  I also have exceptional colleagues who specialize in other areas that I have been able to rely on when I needed coverage.

I also have found that most clients, when communicated with that I am ill or unavailable are able to accommodate my schedule, in fact, just a few weeks ago I woke up one Saturday and felt sick enough to go to the walk-in clinic to see a doctor.  I had a showing that afternoon and when I contacted the client to re-schedule they were more concerned with my health than the missed showing that day and actually thanked me for not exposing them to my germs!  I guess good agents attract good clients! :)

Dean,

In the past I either toughed it through or had made adjustments in my schedule.....that is why I joined KW and I hope that I have a team in place by the end of the year.

Coincidence- I've been sick with a bad cold or mild flu for nearly a week, and am playing catch-up today. My husband and I own our office and work together, unfortunately he is not "techie" at all, so anything to do with our web pages, software, our blog- anything beyond basic email has to wait on me. If I ever go down for a long time we in trouble!
