If something sounds too good to be true, most of the time it is! But I found one thing recently that really is an exception - local made honey.
I love honey - and tend to buy the organic versions in the stores. Until someone gifted me a jar of a local honey - and WOW! At that moment - I understood all the lines on the street corners where local made honey makers set up to sell their product. In Tucson - you can find "honey sellers" on street corners, at craft fairs - but on Tucson's east side - you can buy honey at La Mariposa, in Ace Hardware and a variety of other places - making it very convenient! You can also get a variety of "tastes" such as Orange Blossom and Desert Mesquite flavors!
According to experts, honey is nature's little miracle, with an extensive list of health benefits that provides antiseptic, antioxidant and cleansing properties, and is also good for your skin. And I have since learned that most honey at the grocery store has been pasteurized and highly filtered which destroys the ingredients that make it beneficial.
Arizona has many local honey farms - my particular favorite is Holly's Little Farm - but you can also get great natural honey from the KillerBeeGuy.com, HoneyStand.com, VerdeValley.com and other places around Arizona. It costs a little bit more - but the extra few bucks is worth it!
